I worked as a substitute teacher for a couple of years while I was in grad school. One day, I was assigned to a high school science class whose regular teacher was something of an NEA flake. Her assignment for the day was merely to show a video of a PBS program on human sexuality. The program was hosted by none other than Phil Donahue and devoted a lot of time to gay marriage, "transexualism", and similar liberal "lifestyle" and "acceptance" issues. I had some doubts, but I did show the video and decided to include a disclaimer.
I told the class to "remember that Donahue is an entertainer, not a physician or a psychologist. He is just one person, he is not an expert on any of these issues, his opinions and views are no better than anyone else's, and probably worse judging by the guests on his show. You need to be aware that views like this exist, but your parents are the people you really need to listen to."
At that point, a young man raised his hand and asked, "Sir, do you mean to say, basically, that he is full of s***?" When the laughter subsided, I calmly responded that we should avoid that terminology in school but, yes, it was otherwise an accurate appraisal of my viewpoint. I had to send him to the principal for obscene language, but I don't know what his punishment was.

What has happened to North CarolinaDuke = Berkeley of the east. I isn't easy to understand when you realize that the residents of NC are basically Bible belt types that love their Country, not Kalif lib types.

Sweet music to the ears. It looks like our young people are not buying the liberal lies anymore. Why would they. They have a true leader, George W. a man they can admire and also disagree with honestly, if they so choose. How about that folks, honest debate and morals. What a kick.

What a classless idiot to knowingly inject sensitively charged political views into the graduates' ceremony! It was their day -- not his! Classless creep but in keeping with his M.O.!

"Your mission is to challenge your public servants and bring America back to basic constitutional values," He should have said "..back to my concept of constitutional values". The original statement is from a man that hates the Constitution with a passion i.e. Who were the idiots that added the Second Amendment to my version of the Constitution and who gave non liberals/socialists the right to free speech? And to think that I gave 6 years (Army 60's) to maintain this idiot's the right to be stupid. Oh well.....

"Donahue told the graduates that the rights and privileges in the Constitution have been eroded."
Just in case no one else picks up on it, the Constitution is (or WAS!) a LIMITED GRANT OF POWER TO THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT BY -- REPEAT -- BY THE PEOPLE.
I HOPE these kids booed this moron when he came forth with that crap about Constitutional "PRIVILEGES."

What has happened to North Carolina?
Excellent question- I have lived here for 13 years and what I suspect is rampant immigration, loss of manufacturing jobs/base, influx of those exiting the socialist North, combined with a downturn in technology (RTP)and a decade of liberal rule which never planned for a rainy day.

... interesting ...
Among the perspectives expressed by Donahue, who hosted a nationally syndicated talk show for 27 years: No child in public schools should be forced to pledge allegiance to the flag; Charles Darwin, father of the evolution theory, is one of the great geniuses of modern time; the war on drugs is eroding civil liberties and hurting minorities.
