AMONG this year's candidates for governor of Kentucky, only Republican Steve Nunn has been honest about state government finances. Only Mr. Nunn has told the truth about the most important spending Kentucky does, insisting that schools need ''several hundred million dollars'' more annually.

Dollars alone will not close the distance between schools where students are making real strides and schools where little progress is apparent. But progress won't come without adequate funding either. It's a shame Steve Nunn is the only candidate who admits this.
A long quote but illustrates how the Courier-Liberal plays their "ever-growing government" preference (always need more money for bigger programs.) At the same time the C-J wants a weak Republican candidate. They know The Dems will always go for more spending. No surprises here.
