Kathleen Laughlin knows the rules. Moose inhabit the city's parks, so it pays to be careful, she says.

That's why she ties a bell to the handlebars of her mountain bike, to give the moose advance warning of her presence. And that's why she was going slow when biking on the trails of Hillside Park at midday Friday.

This reminded me of an Alaskan joke:

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game recently issued this bulletin...

"Warning: In light of the rising frequency of human/grizzly bear conflicts, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game is advising hikers, hunters and fishermen to take extra precautions and keep alert of bears while in the field.

We advise outdoors men to wear noisy little bells on their clothing, so as not to startle bears that aren't expecting them. We also advise outdoors men to carry pepper spray with them in case of an encounter with a bear.

It is also a good idea to watch out for fresh signs of bear activity. Outdoors men should recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear manure: Black bear manure is smaller and contains lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear manure has little bells in it and smells like pepper.

A series issue, to be sure.

The mooses probably thought it was an ice cream truck and just wanted a popsicle.

It is time to get series about moose.

From Merriam-Webster Dictionary: Main Entry: moose
Pronunciation: 'müs
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural moose

This is not to be confused with mice, or chocolate mousse.

We drove up the road today to Talkeetna, Alaska, went into one of the gift shops there and they have gold leafed moose poop necklaces there for sale. Crazy tourists will buy anything! I've seen the moose poop earrings before but have never seen gold plated. Yuck!

Overheard at a bar:

Q: Is Moosehead good?
A: I imagine it is. They have those big lips.
