Photos from the

Dallas "I Love America" Rally

May 17 2003

Old Red Courthouse and JFK Memorial-

The weather for the rally was gorgeous, with a mild breeze keeping everyone comfortable.

The attendance was small, about 100, but it was a great time for like-minded citizens to celebrate the success of our President and our troops in preserving the liberty of the greatest nation in the world.

Several Kurdish-American citizens returned from the previous rally to celebrate the removal of the Hussein regime. Many were dressed in customary Kurdish attire, and at one point they shared a traditional dance, which you will see in the photos.

The first thing I (SerpentDove) noticed on arriving at the rally site was the strong police presence.
There were police stationed on each corner, in addition to plainclothes police, I later learned.
We were grateful that they were there to protect us, and Charles Lingerfelt, the rally's main coordinator,
thanked them over the P.A.

More Dallas police.

Charles Lingerfelt opens the rally while the sound equipment is being set up.

The color guard from Seagoville High School held the flags for the Pledge of Allegiance.

These boys were very proud to be standing near the color guard.
This little boy waved his flag through the whole rally.

Brad Irons sings the National Anthem.

American citizens of Kurdish descent tell why they love America.

Charles cracks up a Kurdish gentleman by asking him if he's wearing his [Dallas] Cowboy's uniform.

A cameraman from KXAS Channel 5, the local NBC affiliate. Several media people were there.

A World War II veteran of the "Battle of the Bulge" relates his experiences.

A T-shirt for sale by, of all people, General Tommy Franks' first cousin, who attended the rally.
President Bush and General Franks are from Midland, Texas.

Kurdish women.

Judge Bruce Woody read "What They Brought," which Ms. AntiFeminazi will post in its entirety on this thread.

After looking at your profile page, seeing that you're a professional photographer, I'm exTREMELY flattered!

Actually, although I have been working with Adobe Photoshop for a decade, I only recently got a digital camera (last Christmas) and it goes with me everywhere.

This week I attended a seminar called Adobe Photoshop for Digital Photographers...a goldmine. If crack is as addictive as digital photography, I don't see how.

:-)

Excellent report! I am going to scan and post General Tommy Franks e-mail after I've had some rest. I don't have the words to the thing Judge Woody read. Maybe Charles has it.

Did you get any crowd shots?

I got one crowd shot, but it was unimpressive. (The shot, not the crowd).

I go for "pretty" shots, I guess, and I never did see one that was really striking, compositionally.

I'm one of those art-school dorks.

Please check your freepmail. Thanks again for the report! I didn't take any pics today, so none coming from me, but I'll try to post the e-mail tomorrow.

I'm still a bit in awe of the people at today's event. Those are some very special people in the pictures you posted. Texas is so fortunate to have them.
