OR a M-1 garand, which over a 100 rounds shoots faster, as it's quicker to reload, has better range & is available for FAR less $$$$$$$.
also 3006 is AVAILABLE, even at 7-11 stores; 7.62 nato/.308 winchester isn't nearly as common in small towns.
my pet Danish SA/SG garand grades as "un-fired/un-issued" & cost me 400 clams (FROM cmp!) & a lot of elbow grease on the stock.

I don't have a thousand some odd dollars sitting around, mostly.
My current project is a Czech vz24 bolt-action 8mm mauser rifle from 1937 that I bought surplus and I'm in the process of restoring.
Cosmoline sucks.
