PatriotPetitions. US has launched a national campaign entreating our President, House of Representatives and Senate to reject legislation renewing the 1994 Clinton-Feinstein-Schumer Gun-Control Act. Please read this brief description of the campaign and let your voice be heard on this matter. Though House Majority Leader Tom DeLay says "The votes in the House are not there" to renew the measure, Feinstein and Schumer just introduced a bill in the Senate to renew the law, and they will press the House for a roll call vote in the upcoming election year. Unfortunately, President Bush has reiterated that he SUPPORTS the gun-ban -- an affront to the Constitutional right of all law abiding citizens to own semi-automatic sporting rifles for lawful purposes. Feinstein and Schumer even applauded President Bush, saying: "We welcome your support and look forward to working with you to gain swift passage of this legislation. With your assistance, we will be able to pass legislation to continue the ban and help make America's streets safer." "Safer"? For whom? Such laws claim, ostensibly, to protect law-abiding citizens. Of course, only law-abiding citizens comply with these restrictions -- and at their own peril. Criminals don't care if the weapon they are using comport with the 23,000 federal, state and local gun restrictions already on the books. The Democrat's "incremental encroachment" on the Second Amendment is a thinly-veiled strategy to achieve their ultimate goal of gun confiscation, as Ms. Feinstein made clear after passage of her 1994 legislation: "If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate...for an outright ban, picking up every one of them, Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in, I would have done it!" Please join fellow Patriots on the frontlines in defense of our Constitutional liberties. Link to -- http://patriotpetitions.us/nogunban.
That's not the rifle I would take into a jungle though.
Check your private mail .... it's not exactly something I'd discuss in public .... but let's just say that Pepto Bismal will be your new best friend if you should happen to get it into your mouth.
NO rifle really will measure up to a 10 or 12 guage shotgun for close range killing in dense jungle.that i KNOW!

what are YOUR credentials to say i'm "pathetic"??? how many ACTUAL shooting matches have YOU been in, where the "target" was shooting AT you??? do you hold the Combat Infantry Badge or the Expert Infantry Badge???
i intentionally did NOT address having to take the garand from the shoulder to reload, as it is NOT necessary, for the TRAINED rifleman.
BTW, the M14 lasted less than 5 years in the US inventory for general issue. yes, i know that a FEW are still around in the hands of Marine marksmen, BUT the Model 700ADL and/or the Winchester Model 70 in 7.62NATO is better liked, even for that rather limited purpose.
NOW, for the difference in '06 & 7.62 NATO: YES the PAPER ballistics are similar for M2 ball & 7.62 ball; however M2 ball is more effective at 550 meters than the 7.62 is at 350 meters. sorry, but that is also TRUE!
if the M14 were so superior, PLEASE tell me why MSG Carlos Hathcock, USMC, stated more than once that the old M1 was SUPERIOR as a RIFLEMAN'S WEAPON than the M14 and that he was pleased to be able to pick a bolt action, rather than HAVE to use the M14.
Clinton sycophant Sidney Blumenthal was on Hannity today, and when asked about what cost the Left the HoR, Senate, and White House, he replied that it was the GOOD Clinton policies, like Health Care and GUN CONTROL, that cost them the HoR and Senate. Apparently, he agrees with you!
(And yes, the slanted spin was overwhelming for the entire interview, and yes, I know that it is mind-numbingly stupid to blame GOOD policies for losing the federal government, but that's the Left for ya... if only we stupid peons would wake up and know that what they tell us is what is best for us.)
Let's hope the Dems don't figure it out any time soon! ;^)
did i say that Carlos Hathcock liked the garand? i think NOT! you should really try to read closely so you don't look less than bright.
what i DID say was that Hathcock did NOT like the M14! BIG DIFFERENCE!
it is also worth noting that White Feather DID use a (privately owned) NM M1 on at least one occasion at Firebase Tiger, when he took the head OFF an NVA colonel at a distance of MORE THAN 600 yards! pretty fine shooting with a rifle "whose time has past"!

neither can you. the name of the game in that situation is well-AIMED, killing shots, fired slowly & deliberately from beyond 400 meters where possible & from cover & concealment.
ole' COL Rogers Rules are still valid 3 centuries later!

The M16 is performing in a manner exactly the way it was designed. The troops like it and in the different configurations is better suited for the different operations. The only fault seems to be the wrong bullet at the wrong time. Some of the skinnies in Somalia may have been drilled through, but more of those troops would have been out of ammo if they had used something else.

Unbelievable. Hathcock's first tour rifle was a Winchester Model 70 30-06 with a 8 power Unertl Scope. For the second tour he used a Remington 700 .308 with a Redfield 3 to 9 scope. If you think Hathcock used a Garand for such an important assignment as killing a Colonel, you better show me that link. In "Marine Sniper", Hathcock shot a General from 800 yards. Since it was his first tour, I think he used the Winchester. Colonel Land did scrounge up some Garand "D"'s in 1966 but Hathcock was given the Winchester. I found no reference that Hathcock used a Garand in Viet Nam.
IF every time they propose something like this, we wack 'em upside the head, figuratively speaking. If we just ignore them, they won't go away. They need to feel the heat.
he said, during a class presentation @ USAMPS MPOB class 3-69, that was precisely the rifle that Hathcock used;evidently, the privately-owned NM garand was on-site & he took the shot & MASTER marksman that he was, it WORKED.
i was NOT there, thus i'm not inclined to dispute the ole' sarge's word.
