From the article:
The Tulls said they notified the school about the event ahead of time. But the school decided an excused absence wasn't warranted, saying the event wasn't an educational activity.
"I'm not sure what was gained from an educational value," Superintendent Mark Keen told RTV6's Vicki Duncan.
"We're in school for 180 days to provide an education," Keen said. "Going to see the president is certainly an experience, but what did the child learn from that?"

Imagine! A school actually concerned with "educational value"...I'm suuuure they are all about English, math, and science 24/7!

"Going to see the president is certainly an experience, but what did the child learn from that?" Well, Brianna learned that her school superintendent is a liberal Bush-hater.

She learned that her school wants her to learn about presidents and current events only from books, not from direct experience where she can form her own opinions.
She learned that school officials can be petty and narrow-minded.

Wonder how many non-productive assemblies this school has in the 180 days school session.

"Going to see the president is certainly an experience, but what did the child learn from that?" And maybe she learned that next time it would be better if she lied, and say "Brianna is sick today." That's always a good lesson for the tots. Brilliant, Mr. Keen.

My wife and I take our granddaughter out of school one day a year to go to an event we think she will learn something from. Yes, we could probably take her on a weekend, but this makes it more special. Besides, all these were attended by many school kids, anyway. We took her to the Anne Frank travelling exhibit, the Titanic display, and this year an art musueum tour. She learns much more from this than regular school and we always buy reading materials that she can devour. If she had the chance to draw paintings for the President (since that his her talent) I would certainly take her for the "learning" experience. Since when is music not part of the school curriculum?

"Going to see the president is certainly an experience, but what did the child learn from that?"UMM let's see, there's history, current events, music obviously since this was a choral performance, civics, speech, english (write a paper about the experience) for starters.

That's bogus. Parents are always getting kids out of class for everything--trips of all kind. If schools are given proper advance notice--a necessary courtesy--there is no reason why a student should not be allowed to make up work. Either the township or the state should look into this matter a little more closely...

Keen said. "Going to see the president is certainly an experience, but what did the child learn from that?" A hell of a lot more than what was learned in that classroom, I can gaurantee that.

How about considering it a civics field trip, Bub. These NEA weasels should be hung out to dry.

"We're in school for 180 days to provide an education," Keen said. "Going to see the president is certainly an experience, but what did the child learn from that?" That Mr. Keen and his government bureaucracy are total asses. A very good lesson indeed for a youngster to learn --- its much more difficult to snow them later in life when they learn that lesson young.
I bet he would have excused her for a week to go to Disney World (schools classify that tourist trap as a "learning experience" -- parents would raise holy hell if they didn't) but this kid does a once-in-a-lifetime, one-day event like singing for the POUTS and that doesn't count in his cloistered little world.

1) The best forms of Fisting
2) Why it is cool to be Gay Lovers
3) All Minority problems Whitey created
4) Reperations are not a dream but a Right
5) How to snitch on a Gun Owning Neighbor
6) Conservatives sacrifice their Children and eat your pets
7) George Bush Stole the Election from little ole Ladies in
Floriduh and is now starving them for speaking up.
8) Oral sex is not really sex if it is done on a Democrat.
9) IF your conservative Coworker looks at you, you have

Going to see the president is certainly an experience, but what did the child learn from that?" Well, she learned about piss poor educators with political agenda's. If it had been the toon she went to see, and the topic was oral sex in the classroom, I'm sure she would have been given an excused absence.
But going to see a popular president of good moral character talk about taxes, the economy, and the impact on senior citizens, well I guess that's just not educational enough for them .

"I'm not sure what was gained from an educational value," Superintendent Mark Keen told RTV6's Vicki Duncan. Sure would be nice if the Superintendent could put together an itelligent sentence.
For those outside of central IN, Westfield is a rather well-to-do suburb of Indianapolis.

Superintendent Keen probably would have arranged bus transportation for the whole school to a Clinton event...

The parents will learn, as I did to just call the school and tell them that their daughter is sick. I had to do this often when my oldest daughter was competing in US Swimming. The attendance lady got so mad at me that she once called me at 5 AM Sunday morning to verify my daughter's absence on a Friday.
