I suppose a civilized people would have banded together and pitched in to help keep things clean until the dispute was resolved. Instead, these folks chose to (a) made sanitary conditions worse for themselves, and (b) made a mess that the returning janitors are going to have to clean up.

little schm***s - I attended school for a year in Sweden, 30 years ago - at that time students still bowed or curtseyed to the teacher, called him Magister (Mahyeester). We had the most marvelous facilities I have seen anywhere - use of the municipal cafeteria (delicious food), ice rink, swimming pool and sauna, a woodshop for fourth graders, although the school itself was fairly plain. I was so grateful. I would have swept floors, and emptied trash...or would that be scabbing?

One would think that there would be no labor strife in a Socalist country.

Could it be, because the inflation rate is around 3%?

I honestly believe that no school should have janitorial staff except for the heaviest or most challenging cleanup jobs. Kids should take turns cleaning their own schools. The benefits are beyond my ability to count.

A civilized people don't live under a system which allows a group of janitors to hold up the education process.

When I was in elementary school, every kid took turns working in the cafeteria for one day. Does anyone still do that?

You can have your children do it in your school. My children attended school to learn, not clean up.

Private education provides for you to choose that type of school if you wish. Government schools should be abolished for any number of reasons, not the least of which is the type of mischief you describe.

I guess there aren't any civilized people anywhere.

You probably guess right, but not by the same measurment.

Government force is a measure of incivility. The more force, the more uncivil.

Central planning doesn't work there and it isn't going to work here either.

I think that attitude breeds a mentality that "other people exist to clean up after me"--

--which leads to "other people exist to take care of me"--

--which leads to liberalism, socialism, and Clintonism.

And also makes kids grow up into people who do not appreciate service workers--do not tip, and leave huge messes, because they're USED TO THAT. That makes all of society a little ruder and a lot messier.

But you can believe what you want. The kids at my husband's high school are pigs. They don't care what they do to the facilities. They litter his classroom and he has been told he cannot reprimand them for it.

Helping to take care of something gives you a sense of ownership. If you're happy with your kids not caring about what their school looks like, so be it.

You think wrong.

--which leads to "other people exist to take care of me"--

Nonsense

--which leads to liberalism, socialism, and Clintonism.

Did you learn this idiotic non-logical thought process in government school?

And also makes kids grow up into people who do not appreciate service workers--do not tip, and leave huge messes, because they're USED TO THAT. That makes all of society a little ruder and a lot messier.

More nonsense.

But you can believe what you want.

Thanks, I knew that.

The kids at my husband's high school are pigs.

Sorry, maybe they have bad parents. maybe he should get a job elsewhere.

They don't care what they do to the facilities.

Government school? Typical.

They litter his classroom and he has been told he cannot reprimand them for it.

He needs a new job and needs to learn how to deal with personal problems so you don't have to whine about it on the internet.

Helping to take care of something gives you a sense of ownership.

I agree, when you own it, take care of it. My kids do.

If you're happy with your kids not caring about what their school looks like, so be it.

My kids have more respect for their surrounding than yours I'm sure. They don't need government employees to tell them what to do about common courtesy and related matters. They learn it at home and in church.

If they make a movie of this in Denmark, would they title it "Clogged".

I know, but it's Friday.

Cleaning up is part of learning. Learning to be a responsible adult.

If you haven't figured that out yet, well, what can I say?
