SATANIC RITUAL? MSNBC’s Dan Abrams reported late Thursday that Scott Peterson’s defense team has been considering a theory for almost a week that Laci Peterson was not just killed but actually carved up, and that Conner was cut from her body — not separated after her death. According to figures close to the defense, the theory is that Laci Peterson died as a result of a satanic ritual, possibly at the hands of one of the known Modesto cults. Abrams also reported that the defense has said they have a credible suspect they are following, and as they pore through the thousands of documents in this case so far, they are preparing an attack on the police investigation not unlike that mounted in the defense of O.J. Simpson, acquitted in October 1995 in the death of his wife and a male friend. The Peterson defense will say that, from day one, the authorities only looked at Scott Peterson as a possible suspect, and that some evidence against him may have been tainted.
