75% of Americans oppose bank accounts for illegals
TIME-OUT PROJECT ^ | May 15, 2003 | Project USA

Posted on 05/15/2003 5:54:04 PM PDT by CIBvet

A new Roper poll shows that 3 out of 4 Americans oppose allowing financial corporations to open bank accounts in the United States for foreign nationals illegally in the country. Nevertheless, Bush Administration officials, like U.S. Treasurer Rosario Marin, are coordinating efforts between the Mexican government and the U.S. banking industry to step up the practice.

Ms. Marin, who "entered" the United States from Mexico when she was a teenager, recently returned from a trip to Mexico City where she met with Mexican officials to negotiate policies favorable to Mexicans. As reported in the San Francisco Chronicle, Marin was attempting to "drum up support for a Partnership for Prosperity program meant to tear down logistical and financial barriers that make it difficult for Mexicans working in the United States to send money home."

Critics say this is just another example of the Bush Administration's support for illegal immigration, but note that the Treasury Department, under Ms. Marin, has been particularly aggressive in encouraging illegal aliens to remain in the United States.

Recently, for example, the Treasury granted $1.3 million to an ethnically focused financial institution in North Carolina to help it open more branches. According to the Wall Street Journal, the business openly caters to illegal aliens and provides them banking services.

Treasury officials have begun trying to sell the effort to help illegal aliens send money out of the country as "pro-security," arguing that the law enforcement community can better track illegal alien money if it's in a bank.

However, the effort is not backed by Homeland Security; it is backed by banks, which have a clear profit motive, and by the Mexican government, which seeks an incremental amnesty for illegal aliens in the United States.

The Bush Administration should rebuff the big corporations and Mexico. The American government has a duty to enforce American laws, rather than encourage foreign nationals to break them.

+== TAKE POSITIVE ACTION ==+

The first border death of the approaching summer season has now been reported, and, if this year is like previous ones, we can expect hundreds more of these tragedies before autumn.

Those who provide the magnets in the United States that lure illegal aliens across our dangerous borders carry some responsibility for the deaths. The Bush Administration, for example, rather than implement a firm and humane interior enforcement policy, which would largely end the border deaths, continues to put ethnic politics and corporate profiteering above the law and the will of the American people.

While the White House might get some political mileage out of allowing Rosario Marin, who, the White House often notes, is the "highest serving Latina" in the administration, to serve as U.S. Treasurer, selfish political advantages cannot take precedent over the public good. With three-quarters of all Americans opposing bank accounts for illegal aliens, the White House must reign in the Treasury Department no matter how ethnically dedicated Ms. Marin is to "her people," and no matter how much money banking corporations are making off illegal alien bank accounts.

Please call the White House comment line and say, "I am very disappointed by the Bush Administration's continued support for illegal immigration. Please tell George Bush I want the Treasury Department to stop pushing for bank accounts for illegal aliens."

Worthy of repeating! Believe Joe Hadenuf said it all quite succinctly in post #31.

Can you explain as I am at a total loss to understand why they feel losing our sovereignty is a good thing. If not for votes than why?

Most of the polititians want the U.S. to join with the UN and the rest of the world into one global government.

They know the PEOPLE do not want this.

So, how do they accomplish it?

How about unchecked illegal immigration, tax business out of the country, import foreign workers to take American's jobs, and let the other jobs go to india and other countries.

why teens and college students shouldn't work part time, i don't understand.

Many of them do. My granddaughter is an A student at a local college, and she has two part time jobs. Many of her friends do the same thing.

ok...let's generalize about 283,000,000 people in the united states by your

one

example.

in southern california, population 18,000,000, as i stated above, many high school and college students do not work. bill handel of radio kfi los angeles who sets the example for millions of people, said, "my kids are not going to flip burgers". it's looked down upon by "progressive" people.

i don't agree with it.

as the zoe baird embarrassment fell upon clinton, it was obvious that many professional people in the united states hire cheap labor to do work that they themselves are either too busy to do, or, more likely, to good to do.

"Can you explain as I am at a total loss to understand why they feel losing our sovereignty is a good thing. If not for votes than why?"

It's all about $$$,$$$,$$$,$$$ ... new Senators and Congresscritters quickly learn to love livin' large in D.C. ... limoing around one of the great restaurant capitals of the world, being treated like a Rock Star... taking the Corp-sponsered junkets with their families/mistresses to pretty-places, to walk around and have their staged pictures taken... securing a lavish and powerful future in exchange for their Corporate allegiance.

The cost to the Corporations and Power-Players, both foreign & domestic, makes little difference, and is certainly minimal in comparison to the almost unimaginable and proveably OBSCENE Corp-profits that hinge upon the elected officials and their bureaucRATic henchmen's continued support for FREE TRADE (aka NAFTA-GATT-WTO etc) and the GLOBALISM (open borders) mantra.

National Sovereignty means nothing to these greedy souls. They care next to zero about the impact upon the fabric of our nation, UNLESS and UNTIL something happens to threaten THEIR piece of the action.

They are secure in the fact that as long as they continue to worship the Global-RELIGION, they will solidly maintain their membership amoung the 'Ruling Elites ... I call them the I'VE GOT MINE CLUB (screw the ahhh, 'little people')

It's a stripping of equity game ... the cuttin' up a (not so) little JACKPOT called the U. S. A.

I suspect that if California was about 4 million people less (if illegal aliens went home), that the jobs they take would soon be filled by jobless Californians, but rightfully at a living wage. These jobs all got done before they came here.

The illegals take jobs from Californians by undercutting. They have single handedly almost taken over entire construction type and gardening jobs, fast food jobs, cleaning lady and nanny jobs, by undercutting Americans, putting lots of guys out of work.

They are able do this by living 12 people to a 2 bedroom apartment, not paying for auto insurance, and having their entire medical care paid for by taxpayers, plus getting checks from the government to take care of their kids. Pretty good deal for them, bad deal for America.

when's the last time that you were out in the fields picking strawberries?

cleaned a motel lately?

the point is, most southern californians are too good to do the things that illegals do.

as bill handel of radio kfi am 640 famously says:

>>>>>>>>>> "my kids aren't flipping burgers".

and, most southern californians agree, if they can get by with it.

Your logic is foolish. These Jobs that you keep saying that Americans are too good to perform, USED to pay 40-100% more before the invasion. Now an American cannot AFFORD to work for the same wages that an invader will work for. The profit is keep and now not needed to support an employee. The rich landscapers here in NJ used to pay 10-15 an hour are now down to 5. They have season tickets to the Giants, a Ski house and a Shore place. And a truck load of workers in dirty white T-shirts that are here for the dough.

How would a US citizen compete in this situation?

I have an education, never had to pick strawberries except in my own back yard. Read afronaut's #150 post. I don't know why you keep insisting that kids don't work, because the majority of them do in order to buy the things they think they need. Bill Handel may be speaking for his kids, but not necessarily for others.

I've lived in California all my long life, and believe me, all these jobs were filled by Americans before the illegal alien invasion, which brought down wages for everyone.

Wait until they get to your state in the numbers they are here, you'll be singing a different tune when you see your taxes rising, the schools overflowing, the medical facilities closing because of bankruptcy, the welfare office with a line a mile long, and when you have to walk a mile before you hear anyone speaking English.

i read #150, and replied, but never got a response to my question:

he says that jobs paid 40-100% more before the invasion. my question is, will carl's jr, for example, be willing to pay $42,000-63,000 for a general manager? i think not.

last week i drove thru' temecula and had lunch at a carl's jr. near the door was an ad for employees, listing these salaries:

general manager $30,000-45,000 /yr
restaurant manager $28,100-35,000 /yr
shift leader $8-10.75 / hr.
crew $6.75-8.50 / hr

take any of these and multiply by post #150's 40-100% more, and you'll soon see that no, carl's jr will not be increasing their salaries so that you white folks can send mexicans home. no one is going to pay, for example, an 18 year old kid $17.00 to take your order.

the democrats can't figure out economics, and neither can some people on this forum.

like the wal-mart phenomenon-their success just keeps building and building and building-americans want cheaper goods and services.

teens and college students do not work in southern california unless they have to. "have to" means that that their parents cannot afford to not have them work, or, some old-fashioned parents still believe that work has a positive value. i believe the latter. when i was in high school and college i knew few people that did not work part-time during the school year and full-time during the summers.

this has now changed for many middle class and upper middle class families. like bill handel, "my kids aren't flipping burgers", they look down upon menial jobs.

in the 1950s americans did not look down generally upon menial jobs and think that life owed them cheap labor to do these jobs. the zoe baird mess during the clinton administration pointed this out. embarassing to the president it revealed the truth, that most professionals, middle and upper middle class americans use and benefit from cheap labor. bill handel's "my kids are not going to flip burgers" resonates with these people.

look at recent american history:

in the 1950s when i was a kid illegals were rounded up by officials and placed on trains back to mexico. no more. why?

1. the ww2 generation of americans had 3, 4, and 5 kids.

2. the boomer generation (1946-64) and successive generations have had fewer children. women generally start having children about age 18. 18 + 46 = 1964. and guess what? the u.s. congress debated immigration policy in 1965 because demographers were reporting to decision makers that a birth deficit was nearing. a new immigration policy was adopted, changing from europeans, to the 3rd world.

interesting, the question was raised, will this new policy change the color of america? no, was the answer. it was obviously incorrect.

and, sure enough as demographers had predicted, in the mid to late 1970s, the american birthrate fell to 1.7 or 1.8.

also, how many millions of future americans were aborted?

thus, there were less teens entering the job market.

4. combined with the change in american values, discussed above, fewer americans required their children to work part time during high school and college.

5. meanwhile during the 1980s american decision makers were concerned about a marxist revolution, a second revolution, in mexico, our southern neighbor. the american government sent tanks and other materiel to the mexican government. of concern were the displaced rural poor who were moving to mexican cities looking for work and finding none. they had no housing, no health care, no services, and lived in cardboard shacks on the peripheries of mexican cities. mexico city became one of the largest cities in the world, surpassing american cities in population.

fearing increasing marxist control over these displaced poor, the american decision makers overlooked illegal immigration, a safety valve, so that mexico did not blow up.

the last thing american decision makers of the reagan administration during the contra wars of central america wanted, was a marxist revolution on our border!

also, increased immigration dovetailed nicely with the demand for cheap labor. republican administrations tend to be more responsive to lobbying by small business and corporate business for cheap labor. (this is one reason why the zoe baird mess was so embarrassing to clinton. democrats are supposed to be for the poor people, but it was revealed that all the limousine democrats were sucking up cheap labor!)

due to the higher birthrate of the immigrants, some time in the 1990s the american birthrate had repaired itself, and moved above replacement of 2.0.

neither the republican party nor the democrat party has taken a strong stand against illegal immigration for the reasons that i have outlined above. in fact, during the 1980s illegals were given american citizenship.

if you read history, you will find that the idea of nationalism and implicitly national borders began during the renaissance. but even tho' many countries believe themselves to be racially homogenous, they are not. for example, just who are the french? the result of celtic invasions, various tribes of gothic origins in asia and their repeated invasions, that eventually broke roman power. in the medieval era the vikings plundered the future france, raping women and leaving their offspring. later the french normans invaded england forever changing england and our language. still later some of the assimilated norman-english invaded sw france, no doubt leaving some of their dna. back to the medieval era, the arabs got as far as portiers france until they were defeated by charles martel. and this isn't the full story.

in sum, the movement of people is the history of the world. is any country or culture racially pure? not.

if you don't like where you live, and don't like the dark skinned, spanish-speaking, catholics around you, well--move!

there was an article just last week or so in the los angeles times saying that jews are moving into las vegas in large numbers. many southern californians have moved there and enjoy it. there are still mexicans there, but not as many as socal. the reason there are mexicans there is because americans want cheap labor.

there were no "good ol' days". there were problems then, too.

america is doing what america does best--re-inventing itself.

Your post is very informative, thank you. I have nothing against any race of people, as you suggest I might. That's not it at all. What I resent is the fact that our own government is allowing poverty and ignorance to walk in, against all our existing laws, and American taxpayers are expected to support the whole mess.

I don't believe that illegal aliens should be supported with free medical care, schooling, welfare, food stamps, housing, etc. This is not our responsibility. Our government is being dishonest in allowing virtually open borders with a wink and a nod, caving in to employers who want slave labor without providing medical care, and leaving it to us to pay for. There are many people who are having trouble supporting their own families. Why should they support illegal aliens and their families?

If they're going to allow them to continue to invade, we should not have to pay for their free ride here in the USA.

some might argue that these costs you mention are a consequence of the deficit american birthrate. since we didn't have enough children, then we are paying others to have children for us.

do you honestly believe that not educating children who live here would be in our best interests? or, not giving pre-natal care to mothers? if a mexican kid couldn't count to 10, then how would he work in a carl's jr and serve you burgers? then, the crime rate would really go up!

i doubt that immigrant crime is any higher than our own native born crime, say, for example, in south-central los angeles. a couple of weeks ago i was in the moreno valley. i walked into an albertson's supermarket and the wells fargo bank had 2"'s of plastic separating the customers and bankrobbers from the employees. having lived in torrance, long beach, etc. that indicated that black males lived near by.

people are people, and wherever you have people you have crime.

there are a lot of hypocrisies concerning illegals. take for example, last week the san diego restaurant owner that called into the john and ken show on radio kfi, am 600. he was very angry at them for attacking governor grey davis and his revised state budget. he made no sense, until his last moments on the program. and then, the cause of his anger was revealed:

he did not want to pay the health care costs of his restaurant employees!!!

meanwhile, our own john and ken who rant and rave daily about illegals, admitted that one of them has a nanny!!! now, where do you think the nanny came from? from mexico or from a family recently over the border from mexico. i almost drove off the road i was laughing so hard!!!

people want it both ways. cheap labor and a lily white, judeo-christian culture.

so, in other words, what is happening is that people like this owner of a restaurant are passing on their expenses onto you and me, the american taxpayer.

instead of ranting and raving about illegals, why don't you

>>>DO<<<

something? -- like demand of your elected representatives that the costs of health care be borne by those who benefit from cheap labor.

I'm certain there are PAC's directly connected to Mexican contributers, but I'd bet U.S.Corporations fuel much, if not the great majority of $$$ to Congress and our Senator's campaign coffers to continue to buy cheap labor laws/legislation/proctices.

Also, don't overlook groups like LULAC and LaRaza who get a majority of their funding from liberal/Socialist/Corp Foundations like the Ford Foundation, Pughe(sp?) Charitable Trust etc etc.

For your information, I DO contact every elected official possible, by regular mail, on a regular basis. None of them care. I do not believe it is the responsibility of the American taxpayer to support illegal aliens. I don't think we owe them medical care, I don't think we owe them schooling, I don't think we owe them welfare. I want them deported, and I want existing immigration and border laws enforced. They make a mockery of United States law.
