West Wing finale..."President" Sheen invokes 25th. Hastert look-alike John Goodman takes over.

Posted on 05/15/2003 7:38:22 AM PDT by ken5050

In case you all missed it, the West Wing ended its season last night, and obviously Aaron Sorkin has been smoking 'shrooms again. Sorkin has also left the show, as writer and creative force, but he's leaving his peculiarly distorted vision of political reality for the next group of writers to untangle. If you're interested, let me summarize events for you...

Rumor has it Martin Sheen is going to carpet-bag it to Ohio and run for George Voinivich's Senate seat.

I also read Rob or Chad Lowe, or Phil Donahue were also considered.

Martin Sheen, Rob Lowe, Phil Donahue and of course Ohio's favorite son, Jerry Springer. You couldn't buy something that twisted with a check.

I hope the republicans can find someone to run. The last thing I need is a RINO vs Rat senate race.

At least the Estevez/Sheen family has some ties to Ohio.

They were never funny.

Seems now it's rather "acceptable" to tell on somebody who is a threat to the country.

Back then, she was doing the right thing by doing the same. I never thought it was funny to ridiculte somebody who was doing the "right" thing.

And now we put whistle-blowers on the cover of national magazines. It's disgraceful.

Sorry. I thought I made it clear in my essay.. The VP had resigned last week, cause he was having an affiar..the VP office was vacant..so the Speaker ascends. The Speaker had to resign from Congress first. It was pointed out to him by the WH CoS that when the 25th is rescinded, he'd have to run for Congress in 2 years. Goodman replied.."Son, I run EVERY two years"...Nice point...made him look good..

"So the real question is - When did WEST WING officially "Jump the Shark"?"

The official answer is "When it tried to react to 9/11." At that point, TWW became irrelevant both to the real world and to its original premise.

Tune in Tues. at 9 EDT for season finale. The intro catches you up enough that you can enjoy the one show. A real thriller.

I don't watch TV very much--only cable news if I do. I don't go to movies--kid's movie once every few years. I listen to talk radio and read news from the internet. I refuse to support Sheen et. al. leftist habits.

Polls indicate Springer would get trounced like an ugly buck toothed bald chick at a beauty pagent.

No, they have no such ties to Ohio. I've checked.

All I mentioned were born here and moved many decades ago.

My prediction:
Voinivich will be out before the primary, he will be replaced, then a special election will ensue.

Think New Jersey.

Naw. I wouldn't give them ratings in exchange for cash.

Maybe I'll rent the first season of Six Feet Under.

Well, there are obviously lots of folks here who don't watch the show who have strong opinions about it..or who just tune into Law&Order an hour early.

Hehe, well that would be descriptive of me, anymore. I used to be a more devoted viewer but it quickly started to really p!ss me off.

Whether or not one thinks it's well-crafted, the show really does have some disturbing ideologies and assumptions, including an implicit one that I personally am an ignorant yahoo. I don't really take kindly to that.

The John Goodman shot of him as the GOP speaker (i.e., EVIL!) purposely and 'meanly' strolling toward the Oval Office in the corridor leading from the Official Residence, is so steeped in propagandist imagery, it wasnt even funny.

Lib producers and directors made the guy look like some kind of nefarious dictator, and eerily panned and zoomed the actor, (shooting cam shots looking up to make him tower) in the same way he was panned in "Oh, Brother, Where Art Though", when he played a Ku Klux Klansman.

Was I the only one who noticed that?

Other than that, what a rotten show. At least they could have had "President Barlett" swallow a pretzel or something......

Not particularly. I guess it would depend more on the viewer's bias than Sorkin's, to be honest. Sorkin's shown he's capable of writing intelligent, honorable Republicans - the second season's Ann Coulter doppelganger, Matthew Perry's two-episode arc this season - but if you went in to it with the idea that West Wing Republicans are all evil caricatures, as I have a feeling many FReepers would, you could probably see that in the characterization.

WHat did Matthew Perry play? I never envisioned him to lower himself to play a conservative (in a good light, might I add).

He's Catholic, married with four children, and a business-man who is very successful. He is also privately as well as publicly involved in charity.

He keeps his nose clean so as not to offend any consumers, and he has publicly stated he's voted for both parties for different reasons at different times.

However, I would lean towards Conservative. He also has a stay at home wife. He won't even think about it until the children are older, so I'd say maybe ten years.
