Once again the Democrats go on record as supporting breaking the law if it benefits them.

And what's the deal with Oklahoma? I kept hearing about how it was one of the most conservative state in the country, but it looks to have a Dem guv, Dem controlled House, and Dem controlled Senate. How did that happen?

It happened because of 'Rat gerrymandering of the legislature and a dreadful campaign by Steve "Let's Send Elian Back To Castro" Largent. The state can't indefinitely remain 'Rat and will probably turn GOP sooner rather than later. Henry keeps acting like an a$$hole, and he will definitely be needing to find a new line of work come January 2007.

Oklahomans send conservatives (for the most part) to Washington and into many statewide offices, but still manage to elect a majority of Democrats to its state legislature. In the 20+ years I've lived here, the Dems have always controlled both chambers.
Henry seems like a decent guy (as Democrats go), but he spends a lot of time trying to have it both ways...pretty weak, really.
Do hope these guys will be branded "Okies" back home... and wish they'd still be arrested back on Texas soil. The mug shots would be so sweet!

the legislature is historically dem. it's trending republican, as the conservatives in the demoncratic party slowly move to the gop, just like in the south, and texas. but it's a mistake to say at the moment, that dems here, particularly in farming or other rural communities, are liberal.

the most recent election for governor was very intersting. largent (r), brad henry (d), and richardson (i) were the major players. richardson garned alot of support with a populist campaign (make these turnpikes free!) eastern oklahoma had a large turnout because of the cockfighting issue on the state ballot.

largent was for the statewide ban. henry was against. rural dems came out for the issue, and voted for henry. urban voters, which overwhelmingly wanted to ban cockfighting, couldn't seem to pull the lever for largent, for whatever reason.

Once again the Democrats go on record as supporting breaking the law if it benefits them.

Someone wrote a brilliant piece in National Review (I think) during the Florida election about the different ways liberals and conservatives view justice.

Liberals believe that it is possible to achieve Cosmic Justice, and when the rules get in the way of that Justice, the rules must be discarded (as Democrats wanted to do in Florida, since Justice obviously dictated that the Democrats should win).

Conservatives recognize that Cosmic Justice is not achievable on Earth, and they believe that the best way to achieve an approximation of justice is to play by a set of known and fairly-applied rules (as Republicans argued in Florida).

Of course, somehow "Cosmic Justice" always ends up meaning "Democratic Victory."

That is the national perception.....Most likely has to do with the make-up of OK's federal Reps...with all but one being elephants.

I predict that OK. will have a GOP majority in it's state house..within the next 2-3 election cycles though....

Lot's of common-folk Dems in this state...Some of it's just general ignorance, some of it's just "family tradition". Many of them vote GOP...on a regular basis.

FRegards,

Republicans hardly campaigned in OK during the last election. The last Republican gov. was involved in a scandal. Something to do with his kids and money.
