Unless Bush reverses his un-Constitutional and un-American position on this issue, he will not receive my vote. I'll vote Constitution Party again.

What an idiot. President Bush can't sign a bill that does not reach his desk. It won't pass the House. I would much rather have Bush in the White House than any of the alternatives.

Perhaps you like cutting off your nose to spite your face. In your case it might even be an improvement.

Sorry, but if Bush puts ANY PRESSURE FOR PASSAGE AT ALL on the Congress on this issue, I WILL NOT support him in the next election. I would rather have someone I "know" is the enemy than someone who I think is an ally that then stabs me in the back (see France).

Even the new president of the NRA says this is a tempest in a teapot, egged on by extremist.

The NRA is not the LEAST bit worried about this "bill."

Or perhaps we are people of concience and will not support what we think is an illegal action by the government. The conservative party "base" is made up of several issue driven groups. NRA and gun owners are just one and one of the largest of this group.

Piss off enough groups and you LOOSE the base. No politician can expect to win an election without the support of their base. Simple fact of politics.

I agree 100%. Whenever conservatives make a "vote of conscience", we all get screwed. Look at what votes for Perot got us.

It's amazing how many people can't recognize "goodcop/badcop" when they see it."

What an idiot.

Why are you jumping all over that poster? What's up with the name calling? Isn't that against the rules here?

You want others to get nasty with you?

PLEASE FOLKS... think for a second. Bush is spending political capitol. He knows/knew that the bill would not make it out of congress and the congress knows it is best for the party for him to oppose. Because the deflation of the democratic firestorm is worth more than irritating a few people since the end game is already set. This bill is dead and pres. Bush gets to deny the Dems a huge propaganda tool against him. HE IS GENIUS.

I, too, have been accused of this. Well, I think that gun owners are the poor stepchildren of the Republican Party and I am sick and tired of being treated like a red headed stepchild and getting a beating all the time! We are taken for granted just as the blacks are taken for granted by the Dems because we obviously have no place else to go. I think it's worthwhile to send a chilling message to the lukewarm left in the 'Pubbies ranks and send a President packing just once! If Bush takes a proactive part in renewing the ban I'll also vote the Constitution Party. A man has to take a stand for his core beliefs or he has no beliefs.

The Constitution allows a way to fight a defensive battle and maintain our freedoms for four years while the "centrists" rethink their positions and come to a more pro-gun viewpoint. The Dems are doing this quite well right now.

Why do we have to settle for a political move like this? Shouldn't Bush just come right out and say it like it is? By saying that he supports the ban on "assault" weapons (even though he knows he'll never sign it), it sends the wrong message out to America. It shouldn't even be necessary to play political games like this. I'm dissapointed in Bush for not standing up for principle.
