So destroy it.

Yeah, just snap your fingers Dick and make them go away. Why don't they ever get it?

Buried in the rubble of Riyadh are some of the Bush administration's basic assumptions: that Al Qaeda was finished, that invading Iraq would bring regional stability and that a show of American superpower against Saddam would cow terrorists.
Precisely the opposite is the case: and the exception of al qaeda activity in Saudi Arabia only underscores the brute facts. The Arabian penninsula is al qaeda's last redoubt. Mainly because the House of Saud resisted our efforts to follow them there, their funds, their leaders. Elsewhere in Muslim world, e.g. Yemen, Pakistan, our commanders in the field have been gleefully capturing or assassinating known or suspected al qaeda operatives. So elsewhere in the Muslim world al qaeda is finished, reduced to releasing cassettes, bombing nightclubs, and granting interviews etc.

Riyad, however, is the new Kandahar.

*snicker*

So let it be written, so let it be done. If only it were that easy, Mo.

It will take some time to clean up the damage left behind by the Clinton years.

I can't recall these assumptions ever coming from the Bush administration... I guess if she says Bush said these things, it easier for her to say "not so fast..." Can't the left argue honorably? (rhetorical question, I know)

I believe that if there was another attack in the U.S. like 9/11, Dowd, Graham, and most of the other democrat pigs would break out the champagne.

Ms. Dowd and her buddies plainly do not understand. Imagine the tripe they would be spouting 60 years ago...

"The Administration has clearly abandoned the War Against the Japanese. Why else would they be invading the poor people of Midway Island? What have the people that live there done to us? Our military is only attacking all these islands because they are brown-skinned and weak. Why are we not invading Japan?"

"Now, why on earth are we invading the peaceful nations of north Africa? I thought we were at war with Germany. Why are we not invading Germany? What has Tunisia ever done to us?"

Nonsense. The latest attack is not a sign of AQ strength, but of their weakness. They have been unable to launch an attack against America, and are reduced to attacking us in Saudi Arabia. What have they accomplished? Not much. They will probably try to claim that they are responsible for "driving the Americans out" when we complete our withdrawal that was already announced last week. But they have royally POed Saudi government and I suspect things will get very unpleasant for AQ operatives in Saudi. And they don't have too many other places to go.

But Osama, in recent taped messages, has exhorted his followers to launch suicide attacks against the invaders of Iraq.

Hey little darlin', Osama didn't mean for them to wait until AFTER Iraq had its A$$ KICKED by the "invaders of Iraq". The timing of that message implied that BEFORE or, maybe even DURING, Osamadude might consider this, as relates to Iraq, to be TOO FREAKING LATE!...thank you very much.

If only Rummy could snap his fingers and make Maureen go away. Maybe Howell Raines will bite the big one as Editor in Chief of the Times. If so, Dowd could go down in flames as a fringe result. We can hope, can't we?
