BATON ROUGE - There hardly was a dry eye among the 500 who gathered Tuesday in Baton Rouge to say goodbye to former U.S. Sen. Russell B. Long when his grandson, Russell Long Mosely, fought back tears to say how proud he was to bear his grandfather's name.

I just watched the tape of the Long funeral. It was a very moving service. Senator Breaux, former Senator Johnston, grandson Russell Long Mosely, and pastor Chris Andrews all did a wonderful job with their eulogies. Bob Dole was recognized but did not speak. He appeared to be there without Elizabeth. Mrs. Long seemed like a very gracious person; she resembles Barbara Bush. There was of course no mention of the first wife. I wonder if the first Mrs. Long is still living. Maybe if the FreeRepublic.com contributors would watch this tape (check later C-SPAN listings), they could better understand the hold of the Longs on the people of Louisiana.
