(Jack) Nicholson Incites Lakers Victory

Jack Nicholson has been praised for staging a basketball courtside tantrum on Friday night - because his dramatics fired up his team.
The Los Angeles Lakers management and players are thanking their number one celebrity fan for his show of passion.
The movie star jumped up from his regular seat at Staples Center and screamed at official Mark Wunderlich's decision to penalize his favorite player Shaquille O'Neal. The official warned security that if Nicholson threw another tantrum, he was to be asked to leave. But the Lakers, who were playing against arch-rivals San Antonio Spurs, were delighted with Jack's fury.
Coach Phil Jackson says, "He really fired the crowd up and they really got behind us after that. He really knows how to act. I'd give him an Oscar for that performance." And after a double Lakers win following Jack's anger mismanagement, star player O'Neal adds, "Jack's like a lucky charm. He really knows how to get the crowd behind us."
The Lakers are now 2-2 with the Spurs. The fifth game in the best-of-seven series will be held in San Antonio Tuesday.

What a bunch of jerks, dependent on an old geezer to fire them up.

He seemed like a spoiled petulent child to me. I agree. Behavior like that is boorish regardless who displays it.
Then again, boorish behavior is a trademark of the NBA from both fans and players alike.
Personally, I can't stand basketball. It has turned into a freakshow.

I'm sick of all the catering to these "entertainers." We had a jerk in Boston who heckled from his courtside seat. The Celtics evicted him and revoked his season ticket. Of course, if his name was Matt Damon, it would have been a different story. Damn celebrities!

It really p*sses everyone off that the Lakers can win any game anytime, every time. They lose games, the opposition rarely wins.

It was the same type of nonsense every time we played the Knicks, with Spike Lee begging to be on camera. The egos of these people cannot be sated. They have been led to believe that someone actually gives a hoot about their opinions. We don't.

Has anyone here has tried acting in front of a camera or on stage? It's an interesting thing to try to do. Not real easy for most folks.

Did you notice the Spurs have already beat them six times in a row this season?

Not only was Jack boorish, but Shaquille O'Neal is allowed to bully his defenders all over the court and push them around like small children in his drives to the basket.
Even Bill Walton said the other night "Maybe it's just me, but I thought that if the defender got to the spot first, he owned the spot."
If I was refereeing the Lakers, Shaq would foul out every night by half time until he starts going around and not through his defenders.
Jack would NOT be happy with my calls...

The season started 4 games ago. The lakers use the season as a tune-up for the playoffs.

Oh sure, it's just like brain surgery. They read what other people write, stand where someone tells them to stand, do what people tell them to do. Local theater may be more demanding. They don't have a full staff to coach and pamper them.

Boo hoo, boo hoo. Want some cheese with your whine? If the officials were fair, 1/2 of every team sent against the Lakers would foul out in the first quarter. Hack-a-Shaq is a live and well and living in the rest of the much-less-talented league.
Wimps need mommy and daddy to protect them from the big bad bullies. 'Cause they can't compete on the court.

The Celtics evicted him and revoked his season ticket. I heard about that. Kudos to the NBA for standing behind the Celtics decision.
To: secret garden
Because it's true.
The Lakers were doing all kinds of different things all year. Phil's toughest job was getting them to pay attention and keep focused. But when you KNOW you can win every game, you get bored.
Like I said, they are the only team that absolutely can win every game they step into. They decide and the other teams have to live with their decision.
