"In the case of Jayson Blair, our organizational safeguards and our individual responses were insufficient,"

IOW, 'His stories fit our beliefs and we liked them so much that we didn't bother to see if they were true,' ??

The New York Times fabricating facts is nothing new. When the liberal press admit to mistakes, it makes me look deeper.. because they just don't admit mistakes.. unless they're cornered or are trying to cover up something much bigger.

The New York Times lies, prints lies, deliberately in order to manipulate the public.

Start noticing how much of your local papers' national and international "news" is straight from the NYTimes.

Makes as much sense to read the NYTimes as it does to read the Arab newspapers....if you are looking for anything other than fairy-tales.

Within a 30 day period CNN admits to pandering Saddam's regime in order to maintain access and the NY Times admits to printing complete fabrications in order to maintain diversity. Both decisions were made by the highest authority within the respective "news" organizations.

Last night I'm watching Ramsey Clark speaking at the National Press Club on C-SPAN who gets applause for his effort to impeach President Bush for the "high crime" of liberating Iraq and protecting our national security.

Modern day journalism is a pathetic failure. The leftwing media-political complex is so pervasive that even a modest attempt at "fair and balanced" news is decried by the left as rightwing propaganda.

Sulzberger, quoted in Sunday's article, had laid the blame squarely on Blair, saying "let's not begin to demonize our executives - either the desk editors or the executive editor or, dare I say, the publisher."

I'll bet these are the same guys that were correctly screaming their heads off about holding the boards and executives of financial company responsible for criminal accounting practices. Of course when it's them not dong their jobs we should not rush to judgment.

They are just mad because this story takes the emphasis away from real news, like why can't a woman join Augusta.

The top editors at The New York Times yesterday took the blame for failing to oust disgraced reporter Jayson Blair sooner

Taking the blame like clinton did for all his screwups with no consequences associated for them. Typical liberals.

Is anyone else reminded of the nauseating "Sunday New York Times" TV commercial of the black lady in a sweater and morning sunroom saying of the Times, "...it tells me things I won't hear, read or see....anywhere else."

BWAH!!! How fabulously ironic.

Buy a newspaper to read, Read a Greensheet to Buy, Buy a NY Times for the Lie!

Just an odd, off-the-wall thought:

Is Jayson Blair gay?

It's not an idle question: what if Blair's protection was not his color, but his sexual orientation (which is apparently well represented among the NYT top brass)?

That rational makes sense for the first offense, and possibly a second. After the second, management is responsible.

Another example of PC run amok. Out of the mouth of the Times managing editor. We at the NYT strive for journalistic accuracy and MORE IMPORTANTLY diversty within or ranks. It is obvious which they have achieved.
