Therefore, its recent record of false reporting, such as this month's story that GIs had been given orders to shoot Iraqi looters on sight or last year's story that former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger was opposed to using force against Saddam Hussein's regime, does more than just damage the reputation of The Times -- it has a detrimental effect on the ability of the American people to make decisions on the important issues of the day.
