BATTLE FOR FIRST HILLARY INTERVIEW; ABCNEWS SAWYER EMERGES AS FRONTRUNNER AFTER 60 MINS ETHICS QUESTIONED

**Exclusive**

The battle is on inside of top media networks to secure Sen. Hillary Clinton's first TV interview -- launching her book LIVING HISTORY.

ABCNEWS star Diane Sawyer is emerging as the frontrunner after questions were raised about journalism standards surrounding any Hillary interview at CBSNEWS, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

Clinton's publisher SIMON AND SCHUSTER had sought an exclusive launch with CBS and 60 MINUTES, insiders reveal, but immediate questions were raised about the 60 MINUTES employment of Hillary's husband, Bill Clinton.

Additional concern over the journalistic fallout of holding the interview at CBS, which is owned by VIACOM, which also owns SIMON AND SCHUSTER, is said to be at issue.

ABC's Sawyer, redhot after scoring with the Dixie Chicks and Whitney Houston, along with lifting GOOD MORNING AMERICA to near-TODAY show audience levels, is the current choice for the Hillary debut, sources close to the senator reveal.

But no deal had been reached as of 6 pm on Monday in New York.

"We never comment on bookings," said a top source at ABC.

ABCNEWS stalwart Barbara Walters was not even considered for the exclusive -- because of her historic Monica Lewinsky interview.

And NBCNEWS host Katie Couric is believed to be on the sidelines for any primetime interview. Couric is seen as too friendly and sympathetic to the former first lady, to offer any credible opening interview for the project.

I hope, the night of the interview, Bush holds a press conference and interrupts Her Thighness.

We just have to pass the word for everyone NOT to watch the interview. We need to notify the advertisers that we will not purchase their products.
We need to hit them in their pocketbook. No one watched Susan Sarandon's "Icebound". Now we must do it again.

Yeah, as if Diane Sawyer would just rip into Hillary. "So, I see you don't mention Juanita Broderrick in your book. Do you believe her allegations?"

A crackling interview with wall to wall scripted questions and answers. Almost as exciting as watching a powder puff softball game. Now an unscripted hour with O'Reilly, that I would pay to watch.

I was just going to suggest that they look to the softball pitchers hall of fame for an interviewer

whomever gets the nod will surely be eligable afterward if they aren't there now
