Two men try to rob home using butter knife

Story by Mike Peters

Your daddy may have warned you when you were just a tyke, using these wise words: "Don't take a butter knife to a hammer fight."

Or something like that.

When Butter Knife Man met The Hammer in Hudson on Friday afternoon, Butter Knife Man lost. Badly.

According to Weld County Sheriff's spokeswoman Margie Martinez, two men in their late teens or early 20s arrived at a Hudson home on Third Street on Friday. While one stood guard outside the house, the other went inside, apparently to rob the occupant, using a butter knife as his weapon.

The resident of the house was on a ladder, pounding nails when the robber accosted him, demanding money. The apparent victim of the robbery climbed off the ladder and slammed the hammer on the robber's shoulder.

The startled robber dropped his butter knife and ran, chased a short distance by the hammer wielder.

Both the unsuccessful robber and his accomplice escaped, and the only description was that the robber who went inside was about 19 years old, 6 feet tall, thin and wearing a colorful hat.

As deputies searched for the robbers, they considered locking down the Hudson Elementary School, a few blocks from the crime scene. Officers decided against the lock down.

Sorry, but I don't think going to a gun fight with a butter knife, for a weapon, is a very good idea.

I think the funniest thing here is they actually considered locking down a nearby school. Imagine the call to the parents:

School locked down. Attempted robbery. Butter knife. Weapon recovered, suspect(s) at large. Don't panic...

maxwell edison, majoring in medicine...

one thing sad about this is that if it happened in britain, the poor victim would be facing charges of attempted murder...

i swing a 22 ounce claw... and they can have it when they pry it from my cold calloused dead hands.
