While the Soviet Union is no longer, the same urge and desire to be "ranked" over the US still exists.

Think about it like this two brothers, the younger, has better land, crops, growing seasons and can be called a "blessed nation" the older brother's land is vast yet limited in growing seasons, has vast resources but almost impossible to get to, takes the path of communism where some, only the ones at the top control all.

The older brother sells a vast piece of his land to the younger for a pence and lives to regret that quick buck.
The only way the older brother can compete with the younger is by total control and expansion of that system of government with the bloodiest history of any on earth.

The older brother wants his status and whatever he must do to gain that status will and has done.

Most effective method of harming the younger brother has been using other peoples of the world against the younger brother.

The list is long and while there is no verification of the funds going to the Taliban, could be that poppy crop we keep hearing about that is bought sold or traded, who knows.

Russia is not happy with us over Iraq and she is making wheat deals with Egypt, planning war games with India, selling nuclear to Iran are the most recent reported money makers they are involved in. Syria wants the same deal with Russia on nuclear that Iran got and who knows who else is wheeling and dealing with them behind the curtain.

Russia need cold hard cash and they have a long history of selling whatever they can to make a buck, their goal is to be number 1, remember the Russian/communistic athletes.
