'I worked in a Union shop right here in Bush country and it's disgusting how many "gun" people vote their pocketbook. '

No, they're voting to take from other people's pocketbooks and rights.

"I think people should keep this article in mind when they complain that they're going to sit out 2004."

I think Bush and the GOP should keep this article in mind too. A lot of us who are pointing out that Bush has no clothes when it comes to the Constitution and his oath to protect and defend it, are gunowners who do vote.

I agree. As a CA resident...I don't hold out much hope for CA's near future. The populace voted for Davis Twice..go figure. For retirement Texas is looking better and better.

March 3, 2003 -   It has been suspected for quite some time that gun owners were generally all mouth and no action.

But, we really didn't understand the gravity of the situation until we received an email from...

John Brantuk, 2002 candidate for the 56th Assembly District in Southern California.

...John is upset, and he has every right to be.

MERCURIA ping for FReeper "Mr.B.goes.to.Washington" !

About John

John Walter Brantuk, Sr. was born September 11, 1950 in Montebello, California. He grew up in Whittier in the American family tradition. His father worked at a local truck body building company while his mother tended daily to the needs of John and his younger brother David and the family home. Upon graduation from high school, John was accepted to the University of California, Los Angeles.

After college, John enlisted in the military and gave six years service to our nation. Trained as a Tank Commander in an Armored Cavalry troop, John continued to take on greater and greater responsibilities, attending Leadership schools and working his way up to Sergeant, Squadron Communications Section Leader, and finally Acting Squadron Commo Officer. John received an honorable discharge in 1976.  It was a very full experience...

Sorry. A whole lot of us aren't about to vote for a RINO and make gun owners the GOP's "blacks," a group that can be taken for granted with zilch delivered like the liberals really do for blacks. If Bush wants reelected, he has to earn our votes.
GREAT attitude!!!
I am CERTAIN that President Sharpton appreciates your support, and will give you the federal Second Amendment policy that you deserve. < / sarcasm >

What makes him think that all attendees at a gun show were residents of the areas he searched for voters?

Good observation. When I lived in San Diego, I traveled to Del Mar, Costa Mesa and Anaheim to attend Crossroads shows. Now that I'm in the Pocatello, Idaho area, I travel to Salt Lake City, Ogden and Logan, Utah. There are few shows in southeast Idaho. John's survey would only hold water if it could be constrained to the people who actually lived in his voting district. Those are the only people whose votes matter with respect to his candidacy.

"I hunt, but I don't see why you need an assault rifle"

Nothing gores my ox more than for someone else to decide what I need. It's my money. I'll purchase what pleases me. Any weapon is an "assault weapon" if you use it to assault someone. Otherwise, it is just an inanimate object. If you hunt, you choose the right weapon for the specific game. A coyote hunter might choose a mini-14 or an AR-15 or a Savage Model 12BV in .223. Same ammo. Same varmint. The AR-15 and Savage bolt action are more consistent rifles...the mini-14 barrel heats up and "strings" the point of impact. Aside from the "mean looking" appearance of the AR-15, there is no appreciable difference in the rifles. Certainly none that merits banning by leftist politicians.

The Cobray pistol is a semi-automatic that looks like a machine gun. It falls in the same category as the POS Intratec TEC-9. Fat, heavy and inaccurate. If you bring one of these guns along, you can't help but be indiscriminate in your selection of targets. That said, the firearms did not shoot themselves. They did not transport themselves to the crime seen. Bizzy Halder provided the criminal animation to this inanimate object. A Cobray M11 is pictured below.

Oh.
Thank you for posting that image.
I was attempting to show the anti-gun bias in the Associated Press accounts of this event as their "machine gun" morphed - first into a "high-powered rifle" - and then into "two hand guns."
The menacing appearance of the "hand gun" used by this psycho is unfortunate for those who support the Second Amendment, as it may make killing the "Assault Weapons Ban" more difficult. :(

John took a look at a list of people that regularly attended gun shows in his district. He compared the attendee list to voter registration lists to determine how many of the 12,000 gun show attendees were registered to vote.

Just wondering, where did he get a list of people who attended gun shows? I've never been forced to give a name and address to go to one. I would be concerned if I was.

Also remember that gun show attendees (and exhibiters) are often from outside of the district. Oh, and my daughter and I attended. She is 5. At the time, I had not yet registered to vote, having moved to CA from Texas.

Wow, the good news is they don't have barbed wire at the border yet, I think I can make it back.
