Second Amendment Sisters, California Chapter, along with CA Assemblywoman Sharon Runner and Senator Pete Knight, sponsored a Ladies' Handgun Seminar in Lancaster Saturday, May 10th.

There was a great turnout -- SRO for the firearms safety lesson. We all had a chance at the indoor range, got tips and techniques, took advantage of an extended Q&A, had a great lunch, and generally had a blast. Pun intended.

The GUN SHOP is a GREAT PLACE to go. That's were I got my
weapons permit. In this day and age a women should know how to defend herself. Have fun !!!!

Runner, a novice shooter, scored well during target practice and began the paperwork to buy a handgun of her own

That's both great, and the saddest thing in the story. Why should a woman, or a man for that matter, have to do "paperwork" that is so burdensome that she could only "begin" it, just to buy a tool to protect herself and to get some recreational pleasure from? Especially in a country whose Constitution states "the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed".

An hour for all of safety instruction. The instructor was with NRA, I believe, and seated to the right (in red) is SAS's Emily Berg.

It's difficult to believe an NRA instuctor was invited to teach at a SAS event. I was told that the SAS has no working relationship with the NRA.

Yeah. And she's a legislator. But at least she gets RKBA.

Could very well be. I really don't know. The instructor was wearing NRA gear but that doesn't mean he made an appearance in any official sense.

I hated to bring the subject up but maybe your organization can present the instructor with SAS gear so there isn't any more confusion the next time there is an SAS event. A better solution is if the SAS has it's own qualified instructors on call so there's absolutely no doubt who is running the show.

Personally, I love the idea of interaction between the gun groups. The only enemy we have are the anti-gun groups.

Now that you mention it, as I recall, he had an NRA shirt but did wear an SAS ballcap. Or maybe it was the other way around. Saundra, do you remember? Guess we should have taken a close-up picture.

SAS has a working relationship with all pro 2A organizations. The SAS shoots are geared towards safety and education. Using the NRA qualified instructors gives SAS the oppurtunity to get education out to those who need it. The instructors are not working for the NRA at SAS shoots. They are just qualified by the NRA to instruct. At the SASFoundation we are working towards goal orenited days with SAS safety shoots in the morning and possible WOT in the afternoon.....we shall all stand together or surely we will fall unarmed together.

You and technochick99 better have a discussion and I am not getting in the middle of it because you're saying one thing and she's saying the opposite.

Have fun. I already know not to get in the middle of two woman when they're having a little tiny disagreement.


And in case you missed the literally dozens of pleas I have made to work together or we'll fail separately, here I go again.

We have to work together to defeat the common enemy which is gun control.

SAS has no relationship at an organizational level. Different coordinators may interact with members of the NRA. If you invite an NRA instructor, I assume you contact the individual, not the national office.

I think this clarifies the "confusion". In other words, we don't have a formal relationship with the NRA, nor with any other group (with the exception of the Patrick Henry Center). We may join together with other orgs on a single issue, but please don't misinterpret my words.

As I may have mentioned before, an NRA director said the same thing to me - we shouls "all work together". I asked him point blank whether if we were, and SAS and the NRA disagreed on a point - would the NRA change its position and "work with us" or would they expect us to. He said they wouldn't change their position.

Since no one dictates SAS's policy but SAS, this sort of relationship would never work.

BTW - we don't "bash" any group except the anti's. I would say that some could construe that as extrodinary support!

Here's the report from Emily (SAS):

SAS CA held our second Ladies' Handgun Seminar last weekend in Lancaster
down in the High Desert. We had 28 participants (6 with experience, the
rest had never shot before.) All the ladies I spoke with after were
very enthusiastic and said they had a very fun time. Quite a few were
interested in joining SAS, and were even talking about getting an active
chapter running down there! We sold a lot of t-shirts and hats, but
most of all introduced more than 20 new women to the value of taking
responsibility of their own self-defense!

If anyone is interested in helping to organize a SAS Seminar in their
area, please let me know. I will be able to provide a lot of guidance.
I think these seminars could be one of the keys to getting women
interested in the issue politically. Eventually, we could be the
tide-turners, if we can reach enough women. I know from the gals in
other states that these events spread like wild fires once we get them
going. I just need helpers!!
