Troopers training to carry submachine guns at Logan
By Associated Press, 5/1/2003 10:04

BOSTON (AP) A specially trained state police unit will begin patrolling Logan International Airport with submachine guns next month, making the airport the first in the country to use such heavy weaponry.

The Massachusetts Port Authority, which oversees Logan, has purchased 30 of the guns for $2,500 each. The MP-5's have 30-round clips and a two-round burst capacity, which allows two shots to be fired automatically with one push of the trigger.

Massport Chief Executive Officer Craig Coy said the new weaponry, which will be deployed in June, will act as a deterrent to terrorism.

''It's part of an overall system, an overall approach, to make sure that we have the resources in place, that we have the training in place, that we have the right people in place, and that we have the right equipment in place,'' Coy said.

Since the Sept. 11 attacks, which were carried out with the help of two planes hijacked from Logan, the airport has prided itself on its aggressive pursuit of security improvements. It was the first in the country to have an in-line baggage screen plan approved by the Transportation Security Administration and the first to use several forms of high-tech security technology.

National Guard officers deployed to American airports after the attacks were armed with submachine guns, but this will be the first time they are used as a permanent part of an airport's security force.

Coy predicted that the presence of the guns, which have long been used at European airports, would bring peace of mind to the traveling public.

''I think there's going to be the sense of comfort knowing that we have well-trained people there with the right equipment,'' Coy said.

Members of the special Anti-Terrorism Unit, which is made up of members of the state police troop stationed at Logan, will receive intensive training to become certified on use of the MP-5's. Training includes live-fire drills, night firing and special tactics.

The MP-5's are outfitted with a noise suppressor units so they'll create less alarm among travelers if they're used. The guns are also designed for accuracy in indoor environments.

M-80s were the stuff of lore. My dad threw a cherry bomb in the fireplace at Christmas once....about the only time I ever saw my grandma dress him down ...he was about 32-33.

We were big on gasoline(in a bottle) with styrofoam and sugar...in the culverts under the bridge and in a storm drain tunnel under the train tracks.

Oddly, a talent that would have the potential to serve me later in life sort of.

armor car guards carry semi-auto ar-15`s,shotguns etc,(they if they own it)but for inside the truck or by the door, otherwise a shotgun if going two inside bank to pick a large load,(can be high as 260,000 dollars cash)

Most of the time I spent as a *messenger* for an armored courier service was in plainclothes, delivering pharmecuticals or jewelry shipments between wholesalers, but I worked bank and payroll cash shipments in uniform a few times covering for guards on vacation. The loads can indeed be as high as $260,000 cash, or higher, with the largest such chash intertransfer I personally worked totalling 4.7 million dollars; our company's insurance carrier limited the amount we could carry in a single truck, even with additional escort vehicles, to 5 million. In case you wondered: a million dollars in 100 dollar bills takes up the amount of space of a really large picnic cooler or small footlocker; we had transfer chests [sealed, of course!] made just for that purpose, known to us as *tubs.*

On that particular 4.7 mil job we had 4 guys to move the tubs and two remaining in the truck, plus two escorting *chase cars.* I had my choice of literally anything either personally owned or in our armory for the job, including .45 M10 Ingram SMGs or the shorty Remington AOW shotgun I usually carried on the jewelry/narco jobs. I took an M1 Garand and my 9mm Browning GP and M1911 .45 autopistol.

Good grief, that site has more chicks with guns pics than you could click on in a year! Thousands! Here's one at random. I like the Mac, what can I say?

I could say I prefer the .45 Ingram M10 to the 9mm version she's holding [with her finger on the trigger, though the bolt is in the forward position, and hopefully, locked in that position!] and generally favour blondes as well.

I completely agree with the buying of USThompson. MP5s are way over rated, over coslty and underpowered. A level II vest can stop the rounds easily.

You'd be "step and fetch it' ma'am...

...who are we fooling....we're already that. Girls don't need guns to make us do their bidding. They got "mojo", we got "diddly".

Chicks are pretty cool, especially when they have guns.
