There is probably other very similar between the two as well. The ruling Ba'ath (meaning Democrate) Party officials get all the perks, kickbacks and deals, while the majority are poor an uneducated. This is the banner from his Senate website "The Dean of the Congress The West Virginian of the 20th Century" and no body seems to notice.

I have a different take on Byrd. I think conservatives should leave him alone somewhat. Like how the Democrates didn't REALLY want Lott to step down so they could kick him around, I want 6 more years of "Sheets"

Robert Byrd recently earneda college degree from some WVa college. A large part were credits earned by experience - I presume these include: Organizational Theory 101 (Klan Recruiting) - 3 Credits;

Basic Home Educ. (Laundry of White Sheets) - 3 Credits;

Elementary Camping (burning crosses of wood) - 3 Credits;

Behaviour Modification (Blacks screaming at said fire) 3 Credits.

Folk StoryTelling (How to lie to the public) - 3 credits

Beginning, Advanced, and Master Classes in Raising Pork for W. Va. 100 Credits.

I was just discussing with my husband, the fact that the Baathe party had its roots in Nazi Germany and is considered Fascist/Socialist. The Baathe party should be a good lesson to the rest of the world of what socialism and wealth redistribution really means.

Rush has a point here. I live in a West Virginia border state and have on recent occasion visited there.

I can verify that there are Byrd memorials EVERYWHERE. On a drive to Elkins, WV I noted that there were multiple Robert Byrd memorial highways. At my destintation there was a RB visitor center and a few memorial rooms in buildings as well. I am sure it's the tip of the iceberg.

My last assignement in the Army was as a training advisor / evaluator for Reserve and National Guard units in Western PA and W. VA. The Army Reserves in W.VA had a new facility that they wanted to dedicate to a WWII Medal of Honor winner that was living in the county where the facility was located. The MOH winner was getting old, and the unit, of course, wanted to dedicate it prior to his passing. Military protocol, and the unit's chain of command resisted dedicating the building until klansman Byrd was available for the ceremony. Repeated attempts to coordinate the senator's schedule resulted in, "earliest available dates," one to two years out. I left that assignment and the army at the end of 2000, but to my knowledge the building has not yet been dedicated.

Likewise, I don't know if the MOH winner is still alive...#8-(

I think there are a number of memorials in West Virgina that have no names but the statue has a hood and robes on and the plaque says "Grand Kleagle." I don't think it would be fair to count those for Byrd unless they can clearly be identified as having been built to the greater glory of Byrd. And, they'd have to be biult, like all the others, with federal dollars, not private funds.

Rush is wrong on this -- it's not a close call.

Saddam doesn't have any memorials left in Baghdad -- they've been pulled down or renamed.

You forgot the "Military Monuments" like the Senator Robert C. Byrd - Regional Training Institute for the West Virginia Army National Guard just opened in 2002.

Well, not that much difference between the two anyway. Both are big supporters of tyranny.

You're in luck. Byrd will have to be carried out. He'll never resign. As for memorials, I think Byrd has Saddam beat. You have to figure there's 55 counties in WV, which means there's something with Bryd's name on it in every one. In some counties there's several Byrd "signature" projects so you're looking at some kind of multiplier.

Here's one.

The Robert C. Byrd Intermodal Transportation Center is the entry point to the Wheeling National Heritage Area, including the Artisans' Center, Visitors' Center, Independence Hall and the Historic Waterfront, as well as to downtown attractions such as the Civic Center, Capitol Music Hall, Community College, and the central business and shopping district.

Siting, massing, facade treatments and streetscapes were developed to carefully integrate this state-of-the-art complex with its historic context. The functional layout and design of the garage and bus facilities ensures maximum operational efficiency, flexibility and durability. The waiting room provides clear orientation to the Heritage Area and supporting venues.

Wallace Floyd managed the construction grant application process to secure full FTA funding, as well as additional National Park Service funding to house the National Heritage Area Visitors' Center. The transit concourse accommodates OVRTA passengers, a Greyhound Bus terminal, and the Visitors' Bureau Offices
