Or is he making a decision based solely on 'political' calculations, without regard to the Constitution? Yes he is. This support springs not from some core belief, but from the fact that Bush and his advisors think that fighting this law will cost him votes from the brain-dead middle.
I'm sure Rove has stated basically, "You won the war in Iraq, you fight for lower taxes (not very successfully), and you wear a cowboy hat. The right wing will be pissed at you, but they'll still vote for you anyway. Where else are they gonna go?"
And, unfortunately, Rove's right. Where else are we gonna go?

And, unfortunately, Rove's right. Where else are we gonna go? Look at 1992 or 1996 for the answer to that.
Some will vote for a third party for President, or not vote for that office.
Others will stay home.
A few will vote for the RAT candidate, figuring they'd rather have a real democrat than a pretend one.

Some will vote for a 3rd Party loser, but many will just chose not to vote - for President, at least - at all.

Where else are we gonna go?
"If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an out right ban, picking up every one of them... "Mr. and Mrs. America, turn 'em all in, "I would have done it. I could not do that. The votes weren't here."
Diane Feinstein
Perot in '92, Nader in '00...gee, RKBA in '04?
An overwhelming victory will give us the opportunity to put a stake in the heart of these guys. A loss will put us in the hurt locker.

And, unfortunately, Rove's right. Where else are we gonna go? Stay home on election day. Clean the rifles, put most of them in PVC pipes, and bury them, and write down the GPS coordinates.

Where else are we gonna go?Well for starters we can vote for other Republican candidates in the early Republican primaries.
It would warm my heart to have Bush loose the first few Republican primaries to unknown, local, conservative opponents.

Stay home.

We're gonna go nowhere and not vote. The question then becomes, where is the Republican party gonna go?
Ever watch a whipped man bow and scrape to a b*tchy woman? I've never seen anything worth slipping my neck into collar for and I've got some news for the Republican national leadership.

I'll tell you where... right to the shooting range on election day. If Mr. Bush plays "Mr. Moderate" on this issue, then for the first time in my life I will purposely sit out a presidential election. I will NEVER EVER, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, vote for a man who would side with a gun-grabbing, maggot-excrement sucking, liberal whore, such as is Senator FrankinFeinstein, and all the other anti-second amendment bastards. Screw them all into a deep hole!

If the AWB is signed into law, I'm going fishing on election day.
I will NOT vote for ANYONE who restricts my God-given, constitution-confirmed rights, no matter what excuse they give.

Where all Constitutionally concerned Republicans should go is to their Republican legislators and strongly urge them that a vote for this bill's extension equals the loss of a vote for re-election. They should do likewise with Mr. Bush.
Bush has done a great job with the war on terror and in Iraq, but, like his father, he caved into the Dems on McCain-Feingold and it looks like he may cave in on Schumer-Feinstein.
If he does, the ONLY way to make ANY impression on these dunces is NOT to pull the election lever for George Bush in 2004. Even a rat can learn from experience, and if Bush is going to follow the Metternickian advice of overrated Carl Rove on this one - just like he is following Rove's direction on illegal aliens and border security, and castigating and ostracizing Senator Tancredo of Colorado - there must be a price to pay. And that price HAS to be a painful one - defeat in 2004. It may hurt to have another Dem in the White House, but that's the only language apparently some people understand. One of the resaons Bush picked up so many conservative states in 2000 was over Gore's position and Clinton's position on the Second Amendment. Its time George Bush learned that lesson. His caving in on this issue, like on McCain-Feingold, is one which will loose him more votes than he will ever gain. The rabid anti-gunners are almost to a one devoted Democrats, who will not vote Republican regardless. We MUST show the Repoublican RINOs like ROVE the cost of treachery.
