In the interest of fair play, I feel like it's my duty to remind Senator Byrd of this incident:
A White House memo, dated June 16, 1994, concerning preparations for President Clinton's trip to Normandy for the 50th anniversary of D-Day:
MEMORANDUM FOR ALL STAFF WHO STAYED ON THE USS GEORGE WASHINGTON
- FROM:
- ISABELLE R. TAPIA
- MICHAEL R. LUFRANO
- OFFICE OF SCHEDULING AND ADVANCE
RE: Reimbursement for Items Removed from the Ship The executive officer of the USS George Washington has relayed that a number of items were removed from Staterooms on the ship during the White House visit. The following items are unaccounted for:
13 Blue Towels with GW Insignia |
$11 each |
4 GW Bathrobes with Insignia |
$35 each |
12 Plain White Bathrobes |
$15 each |
55 White Towels |
$1.80 each |
As you know, the ship and the U.S. Navy served as our gracious hosts during this trip. They provided these items for our use, not as souvenirs. They have requested reimbursement of $562 from the White House for the above items.
If you are responsible for removing one or more of these items from the ship, please remit payment to Michael Lufrano in Room 185 of the OEOB. Make any checks payable to the USS George Washington. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call either of us at 456-7560 or Capt. Rogers at 456-2150.

He mentioned how Bobby Bryd was upset about President Bush being in a flight suit and he showed a picture of Bush
THEN
He says .. Sen Bryd was once a member of the KKK and then showed a picture of a KKK member and said is was Sen Bryd in his suit

I think GW ought to fly out to all carriers when they return. Next time, do it in an F/A-18, then an F-14, then an E-2, then an EA-6B, then a two seat Harrier. Maybe then he will tire of fixed wing and fly out by helo. First in an SH-60, next a CH-46, next a MH-53, next.......

And just this week:
EVERETT -- The USS Abraham Lincoln isn't scheduled to dock until about 10 a.m., but the celebrations will begin at 7 a.m. with a performance by the Jackson High School band on the Naval Station Everett pier.
The base celebration will be open primarily to the more than 8,000 family members of sailors. The public can participate at Pier 1, just east of base.
Even before the carrier docks, Gov. Gary Locke and 10 other officials will be flown to the Lincoln on a helicopter -- weather permitting. Expected are U.S. Sens. Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray; U.S. Reps. Rick Larsen and Norm Dicks; Everett Mayor Frank Anderson; Snohomish County Executive Bob Drewel; State Sen. Aaron Reardon; State Reps. Jean Berkey and John McCoy; and Tulalip Tribes Chairman Herman Williams Jr.
