I'll be waiting for the "Third Annual Michael Jordan Retirement Tour" next year.
He did a commercial for the guy that was in the primaries against and to the LEFT of Gore. The guy never aired the commercial though.
This story was on the nbc6 website in Charlotte just a few days ago:
Jordan interested in job with Charlotte franchise
05/04/2003
Associated PressCharlotte, N.C. -- Michael Jordan's relationship with the Washington Wizards could be ending soon.
The Associated Press has learned that Jordan is interested in a possible role with the Charlotte expansion team, and has recently talked with team owner Robert Johnson about buying in as a partner.
The discussions include preliminary talks over doing business together on the team Johnson bought last year, according to a source close to the talks.
The source says a deal isn't close, indicating that possible stumbling blocks could be the purchase price and the amount of control Jordan would want.
News of Jordan's possible involvement in Charlotte comes amid reports that his relationship with Wizards owner Abe Pollin has deteriorated.
The two are expected to meet this week to discuss his future involvement with the team.
Btw, all the talk around Charlotte right now is about the three possible names for the new team ...... the finalists at this point are ....
.... Bobcats
.... Dragons
.... Flight
None of the names are getting rave reviews from the public right now.
A name that many people wanted was Spiders ...... so the arena could be called Charlotte's Web.
My experience in the working world has led me to the exact opposite opinion from the one you hold. One of life's great challenges is finding the work most amenable and pleasing to one's talents and inclinations. Jordan found such work on the basketball court, but the basketball court is a whole 'nother animal from the front office decision making process, where personnel decisions, longterm organizational strategy, and office politics tax the judgment and abilities of even the best minds in the world of sport.
Jordan is not a mental giant. He's an average guy with an extraordinary athetic talent.
I completely disagree.
Jordan has athletic talent -- but so do a TON of other basketball players, at all levels.
The difference is that Jordan worked harder than the rest of the players. In this respect, he was much like Larry Bird -- at the gym before and after most of the other players.
There are plenty of athletic players that do not work hard and never realize their true potential.
But over the years many have commented, including David Halberstam in his hagiography of Jordan, about Jordan's prosaic intellectual interests. Jordan is not a reader, nor is he a guy who likes to puzzle out challenging mental problems. He's average intellectually, and that can be a serious obstacle to success in the front office, where agile mental gymnastic ability is at a premium.
We miss you!
