Backers hit threshold for recall signatures
SACRAMENTO - Anti-tax activist Ted Costa of People's Advocate and a conservative former state assemblyman, Howard Kaloogian, said Monday they have submitted 100,000 voter signatures to elections officials in California's 58 counties in their bid to recall Gov. Gray Davis.
By exceeding 10 percent of the needed signatures, they trigger a requirement that county election officials begin checking the validity of signatures and reporting monthly counts to the California Secretary of State's Office -- effectively taking the effort seriously.
``Momentum is picking up,'' Costa told a crowd of about 150 people joining him at a rally outside the Capitol. Davis supporters, however, pointed out that at the rate petitions are being collected, recall backers would miss the September signature-gathering deadline.
Also Monday, advisers to Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista, said the wealthy congressman and gubernatorial hopeful has agreed to put up enough ``seed money'' to begin the professional signature-gathering effort deemed necessary to wage a successful recall effort.
In conjunction with Issa's pledge, associates on Monday filed paperwork with elections officials establishing a new recall fundraising committee, Rescue California, which will be led by political consultant Dave Gilliard. More details are expected to be released Wednesday.
Issa political consultant Scott Taylor declined to say how much Issa has pledged to the effort.
A media that was so biased against the Republican candidate that they provided limited to no coverage to his campaign when and where he presented a platform and offered solutions to California's sagging economy and infrastructure.
A media that was so biased that it hid truths about the demRats and Davi$ and the destruction that they were doing to this state with a spending bunge like none before.
The leadership of a state GOP organization that would prefer a RINO candidate than a true conservative candidate and did everything they could do to sabotage the duly elected primary candidate from either receiving funds for campaigning nor their support.
Should I continue?
