Ever wonder what they talk about up there on the podium, when the President is being sworn in? It's not always nice, according to Bill Clinton's former senior advisor, Sidney Blumenthal.
His new book 'The Clinton Wars' is exerpted all this week on Salon.com.
The former White House insider reports that Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist was 'chilly' towards Clinton during his second inaguration in January 1997.
Blumenthal recounts the scene: '[Rehnquist] was grim while swearing in Clinton to his second term, with Hillary [Clinton] holding the Bible. Now Rehnquist turned to speak to the Presdident. 'Good Luck', he said. 'You'll need it.'
'The're going to screw you on the Paula Jones case,' Hillary said. The President waved to the crowd.
The case of Paula Corbin Jones v. William Jefferson Blythe Clinton had gone to the Supreme Court on January 13, 1997, exactly one week before.

I with E.D. I want to know how Swamp Things knows all this. Considering the guy's track record at truth-telling, I wouldn't take anything Sid the Squid says or writes seriously.

...'The're going to screw you on the Paula Jones case,' Hillary said.If memory serves, the Supremes voted unanimously to allow PCJ to depose the sinkmaster. Hardly a screwing when even the hard leftists on the bench concurred.

And the ego of the Red Queen to think that SCOTUS Rehnquist actually cares what she thinks..

Could Sid have overheard the action if he was sitting on the dais? There is not much room up there..

I would be willing to bet that this is just another "Tall Tale" by Sid Blumenthal, He has a reputation of being factually vacant

Methinks Hillary completely confused the "screwer" and "screwee" parties in that conflict!!

If Sid even wrote this book I'd be amazed. I suspect that the whole darn book is part of Hilliary!s presidential campaign, and that nothing went into it that wasn't approved by the Toons. It's just more of their attempt to rewrite history and it should be treated as such. Sid's just the messenger boy. Again. That guy has no pride.

"with Hillary [Clinton] holding the Bible"
Which subsequently burst into flames.

Anyone have a photo of that inauguration? I heard E.D. Hill question where Sid was located when this comment took place. Was he close enough to hear it or hmmm, are we suppose to believe either one of the Clintons told him? Why would anyone believe anything from a PROVEN Liar?

So you think this is a ghost writer's attempt to get back at SCOTUS for Paula Jones and Flordia 2000?

No, just the Toons' latest attempt to rewrite history. Though if Sid did actually sit down and write it, greater love hath no man for his...well, never mind. I shouldn't print what I'm thinking.

I think Sid just wants to repay his massive legal bills by throwing a few vetted Clinton 'juicy tidbits' out there..(which miraculously involve an angry Hillary arguing with the Chief Justice!)

I'll make you a bet there is nothing really detrimental to the Toons in this book. Someone should ask Swamp Thing if the Toons got to see the galleys and/or if they got a say on what was in the book.
