Republican National Committee chairman Marc Racicot is expected to become chairman of President Bush's re-election campaign and the leading candidate to replace him as party leader is Washington lobbyist Ed Gillespie.
Racicot, the former Montana governor who was one of Bush's more forceful advocates during the 2000 Florida recount, could assume the campaign post as early as July when the Republican National Committee meets for its midyear meeting, said several Republican sources who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Naah. Largent screwed the pooch on his own. I never forgave him over his idiotic and morally abhorrant position on Elian Gonzalez. He more or less demonstrated what happens when we take races for granted. NEVER do that.
In the end, that Naziesque action cost the 'Rats the very votes they needed in FL for Gore. Most of the American public was similarly was mis- (or dis-)informed on the situation and status of children (property of the state) and parental rights (non-existent) in Cuba, one reason for their profoundly ignorant position on the issue. I never felt more frightened in my life the day that raid occurred, and I won't repeat my feelings as to what should've happened to those who ordered the hijacking and abduction of the young man.
"I was told that Largent campaigned mostly in OK City and Tulsa and shunned the hinterlands."
Sounds as dumb as the tack Matt Salmon took in AZ refusing to campaign south of Phoenix.
As far as I know, he hasn't been as damaging as thought, but it sure has forced the OK GOP to rise from its complacency (especially on the part of its Lt Gov). The question is how effective he'll be.
"Or from WY residents on how they like their new clintoid governor, Dave Freudenthal?"
I think he's trying to make himself look like "one of the people." I still can't fathom the stupidity on either the part of the voters or the state GOP for blowing this.
"Ditto the Kansans?"
I think perhaps they're starting to realize that the acorn of the biggest Socialist Governor of OH may not have fallen far from the tree. I may be wrong, but she seems to have one-termer written all over her. Shame on Jerry Moran for not running and stopping this nitwit in her tracks.
"The Tennesseeans?"
Bredesen is similarly trying to prove himself, but I'm having fun watching the infighting amongst the 'Rats over his initiatives (especially the state lottery). I think he literally may come to regret having bought his office. The old adage, "be careful what you wish for...", should be the motto of his administration.
"The Arizonans?"
The Bulldyke-in-Chief is already on her way to proving that her political mentors are indeed Mussolini and Bill Clinton. I hope the GOP gets its act together and gets a "Piestwa" in '06, assuming she doesn't get impeached before then.
