Why Do Conservatives So Quickly Abandon Their Own?
Cathryn Crawford
Posted on 05/04/2003 8:57:27 PM PDT by Cathryn Crawford
Isn't it true that a lot of the bashing of Bill Bennett is simply due to the fact that conservatives naturally rejoice in the misfortunes of their own? The ability of the conservative movement to abandon their own people when they are even slightly attacked by the liberal/media establishment is absolutely astounding.
Why are conservatives so quick to judge their own? Are we afraid? Are we so afraid of being tainted by a scandal that we will so easily turn away at the first sight of blood?
This is a serious and long-term issue among conservatives that deserves to be adressed.

Not liberals, just don't agree that I've decided to leave the family home to go to college...if I was getting married it would be different, but that's another story you don't want to hear.

I like Bennett fine....I agree with him probably 80%...which is good.
But dropping 600K in a year gambling or maybe even 8M overall as some say....if true...does not bear well for anyone's judgement in my view regardless of their wealth.
And the "common man" is in no way going to comprehend all of it positively and of course the media will make hay.
I know all about risk, I'm a self employed real estate developer and investor but throwing rather large sums of money at simple chance is compulsive at best. I hope he addresses this and works it out.

I'd love to dig in the Morality Police's closets and post exactly what I found right here on Free Republic. Don't y'all think that would be fun, guys? The Morality Police are no better than the Taliban's Vice and Virtue Squads. And, they are no different than any conservative trying to say that his vices are ok, yours are not.
That said, I wish I had more money to go to Vegas with. It's only a 3-4 hours drive away from me....

Here's an easy test: define virtue then tell us why gambling approximately a million dollars a year qualifies one to write a book on virtue? THe only way you can claim he's a hypocrite is if he does not believe what he did was wrong. We all believe lying is wrong, and we think that it is the wrong thing to do whether it is us or someone else. It becomes hypocritical when we believe that it's only wrong for someone else to do it.

As the mother of a now adult, married daughter, yes, you can and should disagree with Liberal ideas. OTOH, you are wrong to disagree with your parents, about other things, as long as you are under their roof and they are supporting you; even when it's about something where they are being " strange "... in which case, just bite your tongue. :-)
If they've taught you morals and are supporting you, how bad can they be ?

If he's wealthy and can afford it, I don't see an issue. And the missus at home has said the family's bills are being paid. So if the wife has no problem with it, the rest of us should give it a rest. Its beating a dead horse.

I'm just playing. It's a done deal and nothing would make me happier than to see my hometown boy Frist knocking 'em dead.
I'm waiting.

Oh, I see. Well, you can FREEPmail me and I might be able to give you a few ideas. I think that children NEED to get away from home and learn how to be a wee bit independent, in a somewhat " safe " environment.
To: goldstategop
Amen...but the issue of conservatives abandoning their wounded bears scrutiny.
