Why Do Conservatives So Quickly Abandon Their Own?
Cathryn Crawford

Posted on 05/04/2003 8:57:27 PM PDT by Cathryn Crawford

Isn't it true that a lot of the bashing of Bill Bennett is simply due to the fact that conservatives naturally rejoice in the misfortunes of their own? The ability of the conservative movement to abandon their own people when they are even slightly attacked by the liberal/media establishment is absolutely astounding.

Why are conservatives so quick to judge their own? Are we afraid? Are we so afraid of being tainted by a scandal that we will so easily turn away at the first sight of blood?

This is a serious and long-term issue among conservatives that deserves to be adressed.

there is a perverse pleasure in watching those who live so much holier a life than we pagans fly the colors of human indulgence.

You just now figured that out?:-)

That thought is true, if he put his money in tech stocks he would be just as broke and not had as interesting time. Haveing lived in Las Wages I can tell you that the high rollers get some very nice perks. ( no I dont gambel) but have several friends that do. I just wish I had 8mil to spend, My car collection would rival that of Leno's!! I hope he enjoyed his time.

I do not believe conservatives abandon their own. In fact in the next year I look to see more stories like this bennet situation to come to light. The left counts on our standards and endevors to use that against us. Newt resigned, clinton lied.

Remeber this is now the party of Clinton. Do not think for a SECOND that the clintons are not activly using their past acces to FBI files to their advantage. Do not think that hitlary does not use her position on the military oversight committee to obtain favors from the military. we have 18 months to go and the left is starting to water the dirt for mudslinging.

If you want to contract Bennet's legal behavior just contract he "confessed" to engaging to LEGAL activity!

Although I also do not know just how rich he is. If he is worth billions then 8 Mil may not be that much to him. Although even then much gambling money goes to crime famlies

Not anymore in Las Vegas, or any other legal casino in the US, unless you consider the IRS to be a "crime family!"

I know all that's true. I just think it's pathetic that we don't do a better job counteracting their attacks.

Lots of folks gamble. That's true. But, to the tune of the amounts Bennett admits to? There's recreational gambling and there is addictive gambling. Is one as bad as the other?
Or is one worse than the other?

If the man is a spokesperson for morality and virtue, he shouldn't be gambling the kind of money he admits to gambling. That's not a virtuous example to his wife, children, and to those who have bought his books. The way he dismisses is own behavior shows he seriously doesn't understand his own problem.

The stock market is not a good analogy, unless you are talking about the dot com bubble. Those who expect quick rewards from the stock market are fooling themselves.

Sickening, is it not?

I am afraid that it may lead to even more undesirable crap.

Not to mention the fact that politicians of the future will not be normal people, but people who are put together by consortium's and groomed for the job.

If this becomes the norm (they do it now), we are certainly doomed and the constitutional principle of a government for the people and by the people is worthless.

They should be looking for human faults, and not eliminating them. They are trying to sanitize the process since Clinton. That is not how it should work.

When were you when Newt was run out
of town on a rail?  That was a disaster
for Republicans and America.
But you'll find FReepers right now
who think Newt deserved what he got.
