Cincy, as a lifelong resident of Georgia, and a battler against Pharoh Roy's "tablecloth special" flag, allow me to chime in...

I'm not surprised former President Carter had a hand in this- he was always a busybody. We called him "Wee Jimmy" when he was Governor.
( "He's like a Real Governor, only smaller... )

As far as the flag is concerned, what really mattered to me was the arrogant, high-handed way Barnes went about changing it- not the way it looks.

That said, I voted for Perdue, and defended him- but I won't do that again... first thing he did was try to raise taxes instead of cutting spending.

The state, county, and local governments are bloated and waste-laden from the excesses of "the decade of frauds"-- we need to slash spending first, fire a bunch of bureaucrats, and only after that is done, consider more taxes.

Something that needs to be done in all states!

As an activist Georgia GOP politics I cannot tell you how disappointed I am in Perdue!

He betrayed his supporters!! He promised to hold vote on the '56 flag and he traded it for votes to support a tax increase. What a trade!! He traded away something very important to those who voted for him to get something his supporters do not want!

I've about had it with republicans...not constitutionally minded conservatives...but republicans. Here was the chance of a lifetime to show that republicans would reverse decades old trends of catering to urban liberals in Atlanta and support rural voters against the urban power brokers.

But Perdue caved!

What does this mean for other rural issues? Gun control, water, taxes, enviromental and land use issues?

Perdue was a democrat for too long...it's in his blood and I'll not vote for him again.
