"Officials also acknowledged positioning the massive ship to provide the best TV angle for Bush's speech, with the sea as his background instead of the San Diego coastline."

"....As it turned out, the ship was just 39 miles from the coast....."

Ummmm, a coastline is not visable from a ship when you are 39 miles offshore, Mr. Lindlaw, it's below the horizon.

The ship came in two days EARLY!
I'm sure the crew hated that.
Clinton would have made them wait
and thought nothing about it.

There was no denying the ship's movements were carefully choreographed. Commanders gauged the wind and glided along at precisely that speed so that sea breezes would not blow across the ship during Bush's speech.

I wonder how many neutrons were wasted, keeping those nuk-u-lar reactors running, just for the president.

Smeddley: Admittedly, I biffed the 105 (Lead Sled)...but the F4 was used more than the rest and the 102 was phased out long before dubbya would have deployed. He was not current...he hadn't flown in more than 90 days...killing that qual. I spent 2700 flying hours in the USAF as crewmember, but 22 months as an FMF corpsman...WIA twice. I like the handle!!!

I'm seeing more garbage coming from the OC Register lately. Mostly AP / UP / Rueters crap, as they don't have a large staff of writers. Regardless this is THE paper of one of the last bastions of Conservatism in Calif. and the paper I grew up with. Getting very scary in this state.(CA.)

BILLSUX WROTE: "besides they're just pissy about Bill not ever getting a killer photo-op like that..."

Either Bill never thought of it or he was afraid. Given his disgusting military stance and the EXTREMELY LOW morale among the military during his tenure, Bill might have been worried that the landing cable might "accidentally" not have worked right and they might not have told him how to eject safely.

As a PR person, this was a publicity stunt, pure and simple. If Clinton had done the same, many of you would be critical of the expense, danger, photo op, etc. Rove is preparing for re-election, and whether you like it or not, publicity is part of the game of politics. Bush has character, but he is also a politician.

I just sent this e-mail to the editor of the paper:

Did your newspaper also cover the retaking of the front lawn of the White House by Clinton, after each excursion by the military to distract attention from his activities in the Oral Office?

It was a photo-op, all right -- and a damn good one! The Commander in Chief striding around the deck in a flight uniform, with uniformed men swarming around him at every turn, hoping to shake his hand & get their picture taken with him, he greeting each one with a "Good job!", and joking with them. I'd say the 2004 presidential campaign has officially begun!

The "biased" author of the article is obviously a Democrat, and resents how good the President looked. Don't let it get to you. The whole country saw how good the President looked, and we were also thinking how Clinton could never have pulled off a similar feat. There was so much testosterone in the air, it was palpable -- the President himself exuding masculinity -- it was great! Obviously, the Democrats saw that, too, which is why some of them are whining about it. However, it was so good, that I wouldn't be surprised if even a few Democrats' heads are turned because of it. :D

Exacto Mundo!

"Aircraft carriers 'always' turn into the wind" during flight Ops", (launch & recovery, for those, not you, who are not familiar as to why one earned flight deck pay).

It's the first thing I thought of when I read the above drivel. Liberal logic will forever be an oxymoron, not to mention their daily dose of stupid pills.

Mustang sends from "Malpaso" News.

Re: your above #33 reply, especially, "Vterans already see the lies and deceit":

First, speak for youself, nitwit.

Second, learn to spell "Veteran"...what were you, one of those who got bounced out w/ a section 8 after after 180 days, so you could still call yourself a Veteran?

I've dealt with you on previous threads...you're a mental-midget with an agenda. BTW, don't take it as an insult if I don't reply. I have a very low threshold for Bravo Sierra!

F-102s were still being used for Palace Alert missions while he was in flight school. Duty he volunteered for but was denied due to his lack of experience.

Mustang: I have not attacked you in any way and I'd appreciate a little tolerance.

As for BS...anytime you feel the need to investigate, I'll happily share DD 214s with you...I thnk that would at least validate me...meanwhile, I assume "mustang" referes to a commission from the ranks? Congrats...now I'd appreciate your indulgance and respect...I ahve damn well earned it!
