DNC Chairman McAuliffe Statement on President Bush's Taxpayer-Funded Photo Opportunity
Washington, D.C. -- Democratic National Committee (DNC) Chairman Terry McAuliffe issued the following statement:
"The 341,000 Americans who became unemployed in April had the honor of watching the president land on an aircraft carrier yesterday afternoon, no doubt wondering how the costs of this extravagant photo-op would affect their pocketbooks. Instead of watching his dramatic sea landing, I am sure they would rather have been at work.
"The president seems to want to focus all of his attention on military success rather than his complete lack of success on the economic front. He is presiding over an economy that is losing jobs rather than creating them."

For all intents and purposes, everything that the President of the United States is taxpayer funded. Given that fact, you'd think that Terry would have pleaded with Bill Clinton to never leave the White House!
I believe that it is completely appropriate for the Commander in Chief to welcome back the first returning carrier group, one that's been at sea for 10 months. Of course, I can see why Terry would oppose it, given his patron's feelings towards the military ("I loathe the military!")
As far as the costs of security on the deck of an aircraft carrier, versus the costs of security on land, I'd be willing to bet that the costs were far less!
Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Terry!

Chelsea Victoria Clinton was born on February 27, 1980, in Little Rock, Arkansas, and named after the 1969 Joni Mitchell song, "Chelsea Morning." Her parents were William and Hillary Clinton. She weighed a reported six pounds one ounce at birth.

Great photo and comment T-Rah.
I haven't read the comments, so forgive me if it has already been mentioned, but I've heard complaints about the cost of our President's flight to the carrier to vist HIS military personnel and congratulate them in person.
I'm no travel agent, nor am I adept at military logistics and supply, but I would wager my house that the flight President Bush took to the Lincoln cost at least a few dollars less than the "tour Africa" trip clinton and his daughter took just prior to his departure from office. I think the price tag on that worthless vacation was right around $50 million, if memory serves me correctly.
