Mother refuses to consider posting bail for daughter she calls `brat'

The mother of a Laguna Hills woman accused of making a high-seas terrorist threat says she wouldn't have posted bail for her daughter even if a judge had granted it. Debra Ferguson tells the Los Angeles Times she could not risk her family's financial health by posting bail for her daughter, whom she calls a ``brat.''

Twenty-year-old Kelley Ferguson is accused of planting threatening notes aboard the Legend of the Seas in an effort to get the cruise ship to return to California so she could be reunited with her boyfriend. She was ordered held without bail after a prosecutor argued she is a flight risk.

Ferguson is charged with two counts of threatening acts of terrorism, and could face as much as ten years in prison on each charge.

Debra Ferguson says her daughter ``is going to have to stay in jail and learn her lesson.''

Based on personal experience I'd have to say some grandparents are just as bad, if not worse, enablers. And they don't even have to live the the consequences of their actions.

Yikes! What a monumental brat. Unfortunately, I can believe this, though. I've known people just like her, people who would be capable of just such a thing. Some people go through life without a single thought for anyone but themselves. I just hope the mom sticks to her guns. I fear the dad or some other enabler will take pity and bail out this selfish little twit. Somebody's obviously been bailing her out her entire life, and that's why she's the way she is.

As I understand it she did poorly enough in High School to be sent to one of those special High Schools for kids who can't manage real High School, and she didn't even complete that.

As my dear old aunt used to say, "this one was behind the door when looks and brains were passed out." She must have looked in the mirror and realized that the dumbo at home was her one and only chance to snag a guy, and he's be off with something better by the time she got home. Now he'll definately be gone by the time she gets out of the slammer.

THe daughter is a loser and so is the mom. Now that the daughter is in deep deep hot water, the mom is trying to distance herself from her own daughter by abandoning her in jail. How low can you get? How do you even take sides in this? They're both trash. Throw them both in jail....and the boyfriend too.

Good for Mom. When I first heard this story I thought the girl was in her early teens, stupid and lovesick. I was shocked when I found out she was 20 years old.

Actually, looking carelully at the photo of girl, she (a) looks stoned, and (b) has features of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (eyes wide apart, flattened philtrum: the crest beneath the nose on the upper lip, learning disablities). Perhaps mom was actively drinking when pregnant with cruise-girl here.

She is no more or less ugly than the average 20 year-old girl. How many of us are out there showing off our great Drivers License photos? This is pretty much a mug shot which is not meant to be a glamour shot....unless you're Winona, etc. This girl did a very stupid, criminal thing and is going to pay for it for the rest of her life in one fashion or another. Belittling her looks is just very mean spirited and uncalled for, imho.

Kudos to the mother for her courage to lay it in the line.
