.22 rimfires are included, so shooting a .22 will soon cost you as much as my .45auto does now.

Since tha tax is per round, I guess that means I should get more bang for my buck. Time to buy that 50 cal rifle, and a Desert Eagle....

Private party transfers of guns I hear are illegal in California.

Private party transfers are not illegal in California. I have purchased a few firearms through PPT. However, the transfer needs to go through a FFL, with the background check and 10-day waiting period.

Goodbye wrists!

Seriously though, a lot of people probably thought that, which is why California is trying to ban .50bmg rifles too.

They hate us.

What do you think a private party transfer is?

A private party transfer is (for instance) I sell my gun to you (no F.F.L. intervention). You hand me the cash, I hand you my gun. Private means private. No snooping government looking over your shoulder to see what you are doing. It is not a private party transfer when you have to go through a Federal Firearms Licensed Dealer.

Like I said before, private party transfers are illegal in California. The ten day waiting period is especially garbage. (Police Officers do not have to wait ten days if they buy a gun in California.)

That is not an option. Ammo dealers follow the law.

Ah yes, but they can also recommend OTHER sources if they get fed up with it. The ammo dealers will stop keeping inventory when sales decline and thus tax revenue will dry up.

Is this a great country or what? I mean, what's left of it.

What about the $10 brick of 22 ammo?

We have an informal IDPA style shooting match every Tuesday at our local club. I mentioned to one of the guys loading his Ruger .22 that his brick was going to cost another $50 in California. His reply?, "I guess I'd switch to a 1911 if I was going to pay that much anyway."

Talk about unintended consequences. I like this one, everyone in Cali upgrading to 1911s and Glock.

Keep pushing all the people that have money out of the state.

Money hell, all the people that have guns

That's true, the difference in cost between calibers wouldn't be so significant. But that's not why we shoot 22s. 22 is still the ultimate survival rifle. We shoot 45s, too, and consider that fun as well. Guess there's no hope--the politicians have gone off the deep end. :)

I've been thinking of picking up one of those AR-7 survival sets for just in case. I've got a nice little .22 gallery gun and a .22/.410 over and under.

Didn't mean to pick on .22 owners.

My point was that it would be amusing for cali to end up with more owners of big ugly large bore handguns.

Some people have those vacuum sealers and put everything inside bags. Our survivalists would have that rifle inside a sealed plastic bag before you blink, and it would have no problem floating. Who knows, it might be the only thing found when the canoe overturns.

That'll be a felony, and a mandatory minimum of five years per illegal contraband bullet.

That brick of .22 will cost you 2,500 years in Pelican Bay.

This is the my most often used source:
http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ctd/default.asp

CTD is the best. Their main store is here in Ft. Worth, and I have to leave the credit card at home when I go in there, or I'd have to rob banks to pay the rent.

One more thing about www.cheaperthandirt.com -- I have ordered around $1500 worth of stuff from them in probably 15 different sessions from their web site ... every single order has arrived on time, perfectly packaged and complete. They are the best.

If they had a store here in Atlanta, I would have to work there or else I would be broke.

Also, any notion that one can simply circumvent this new "fee" by buying out of state or on the internet is also addressed: (2) Except as provided in paragraph (1), the fee shall also be imposed upon and paid by the purchaser of munitions for munitions purchased outside of the state and that are intended to be stored or used in the state.

And people will scramble to pay it just like they do for cigarettes? I think NOT!
