Welch said the degree isn't an honorary diploma often awarded to dignitaries, but is a real degree based on Byrd's 27 hours of class work at the school and the skills and knowledge he gained in more than 50 years in Congress.
Shouldn't they have been taking away credit hours based on the "skills and knowledge" he gained in Congress?

How can one earn a law degree before getting a bachelor's degree? My understanding is that a law degree is equivalent to a masters degree.
