"Bennett wrote The Book of Virtues"
Correction, Bennett hired someone to collect stories that have already been written.

More drivel from Bill "Just call me God" Bennett Exactly what drivel is that? As the story explicitly points out, he has never claimed gambling was immoral, nor has he denied that he gambles, thus, he has not been hypocritical on this issue. Also, he has apparently never gambled more than he could afford to lose, nor has his family suffered economically as a result of his gambling. SO exactly what is your problem? I know what the authors' problems are - they are liberals and would love to tear down a conservative. (Notice that Robert Fisk was one of the contributors?

My problem with Bennett is that while he writes beautifully, he has always been first a Republican, and second a conservative; if there are conflicting principals, he will side with the GOP.
He's also a pompous ass, which grates on me.
As far as the gambling, I never considered it an issue anyway, so Fisk et alia's obsession with that is silly.

The Catholic Church does not condemn gambling with one's surplus wealth.

Bennett--who gambled throughout Clinton's impeachment-- Non-sequitur of the week. What is it supposed to mean?

"I play fairly high stakes. I adhere to the law."
One of his key themes in "The Death of Outrage" was how unhealthy and misguided it was for a society to judge what was right and wrong by a legal definition. Color me disappointed in Bennett.

Seems rather ironic when the drug war lobby points to Ames v. Champion as the constitutional basis for the CSA.

Mr. Bennett is good at finding ghost writers, yes, but even his National Review stuff was written for him, and no, he does not write his own speeches.

Reminds me when everyone was in an uproar about the huge amounts of money that Michael Jordan would spend at the casino. If it is your money, and you can afford to lose it, no problem.

Do you just hate conservatives or are those the only ones you find worthy of mention? (I would guess the former)
To: Nonstatist
William Bennett was a (liberal) Democrat through at least, the primaries in 1980 and switched registrations in order to get a job in the Reagan Administration.
He is a phony, and this story but another example that some vices are more equal than others.
Do you have a thing for him or something?
