Democratic presidential candidate John F. Kerry has backed off a repeated claim that his first speech on the floor of the U.S. Senate highlighted his support for the Roe v. Wade ruling that legalized abortion.
"As he has campaigned for the presidency, the Massachusetts Democrat has on numerous occasions stated that his maiden speech as a senator was about abortion rights," the Boston Globe reports.
