"William Morris Agency brings down web site critical of anti-war celebs"
The web site Boycott-Hollywood.us was shut down today due to legal measures brought by attorneys on behalf of the William Morris Agency, which represents various Hollywood celebrities. The web site was known for exercising its free speech rights by criticizing actors for their anti-Bush, anti-war activism. Apparently, free speech is a one way street in Hollywood.
Just before being brought down, the websites home page stated, "Apparently, our domain registrar (namesdirect.com - subsidiary of Dotster.com) has caved to the pressures of the William Morris Agency giant. On April 29, 2003, Dotster.com received a letter from the William Morris Agency in regards to this website. Their complaint accused us of libel and potentially other civil and criminal offenses.
Where are Tim Robbins and the ACLU when you need them?

Who'd a thunk it? Hollyweird free-speech advocates can't stand someone else's free speech.

As we have known since the Clinton administration began, free speech is only for the left in this country. Let the other side speak out, and this is what happens.

They caved in too easily IMO. Speech is apparently free for liberals only. Perhaps Robbins and the ACLU were too busy heiling Hitlery to come to their defense/sarcasm off

How can it be libel if they are quoting the celebs?

So now it is LIBEL to post direct quotes? The light scares them, doesn't it? Liberals must have dominant dictator genes predisposing them to gravitate toward enslavement...

I thought libel occurred when inaccurate information was given and it affected you financially.
I don't see any of these people movin' to a homeless shelter or suffering any other type of financial hardship. Nor do I see how DIRECT QUOTES and well documented actions can be inaccurate.
These people make me want to puke. I think it's interesting that we don't know which client is hiding behind the agency and doesn't have the guts to keep his/her opinion on the front line.

Hmmmm ... I can't wait to hear what O'Reilly will have to say about this. Wonder if he can get representatives of the agency on his show to defend their actions.

CHILL WIND!!!
Where is Diane Sawyer and Peter Jennings??
To: twntaipan
This is McCarthyism! Whiff of Fascism! Chill Wind! Sound familiar? Liberals don't have the mental discipline to separate an abstract principle from its application. These liberal actor airheads see no irony in their whining about free speech being "stifled" when they are criticized but remaining silent when a conservative site is taken offline for criticizing them.
