I predict that he will arrive on board the Lincoln about 3-5 Pacific time. In case he has to ditch for some reason, they will want a few hours of daylight left. I'll bet that he has the highest tech locator vest ever made. Additionally, I'd guess that there are at least two to six helo carrying ships (with helos launched of course) evenly spaced along his flight path.

The S-3 is no more likely to fall out the sky than the VC-25 he usually flies in, and while it is often escorted these days, I don't think they station rescue assets along it's path. Around the carrier is a different story, trapping aboard is the most dangerous part, but there are always "plane guard" destroyers and choppers about when flight ops are being conducted, whether the planes are carrying the CiC, Ensign DumbJohn or Seaman Neverready.
