(they only did it one time). The pilot got the Navy Cross.Incorrect. The Marine KC-130F, flown by Navy Lieutenant James Flatley III, made 29 touch and go landings and 21 unarrested full stop landings and 21 unassisted takeoffs from the Forrestal. Flatley was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross not the Navy Cross.

They didn't have to turn the carrier into the wind. Flight ops are always conducted into the wind.

The KC-130 carrier trials took place in 1963. The Forrestal never became a training carrier before being decommissioned in 1993.

This is the military equivalent of the post-9-11 appearance with the bullhorn. Does anyone have that drawing of the soldier standing next to the fireman at the smoking ruins of the Twin Towers, holding out his hand to take the flag from the fireman - and the caption says, "I'll take it from here"??
