MISSING ANTIQUITIES Loss Estimates Are Cut on Iraqi Artifacts, but Questions Remain By ALAN RIDING
BAGHDAD, Iraq, April 30 Even though many irreplaceable antiquities were looted from the National Museum of Iraq during the chaotic fall of Baghdad last month, museum officials and American investigators now say the losses seem to be less severe than originally thought.
Col. Matthew F. Bogdanos, a Marine reservist who is investigating the looting and is stationed at the museum, said museum officials had given him a list of 29 artifacts that were definitely missing. But since then, 4 items ivory objects from the eighth century B.C. had been traced.
"Twenty-five pieces is not the same as 170,000," said Colonel Bogdanos, who in civilian life is an assistant Manhattan district attorney.

Between Baghdad Bob's straight delivery and the Museum director's anquished cry's, I think Baghdad might be a candidate for the Arab world's hollywood.

The problem was not with what the Baghdad director said, but that the liberal media turned it into headlines, for weeks, without getting any corroboration or making any attempt at getting the facts.
Heck,if we hadn't had embedded reporters to show us the truth, CNN may have aired Baghdad Bob's press conferences without comment, and those watching CNN would think we lost the war.

See the Times is still a day late and dollar short, when they bother to report at all...At least they are reporting it. This is the first I have seen.

I was simply making an observation that the Iraqi acting ability seems to be pretty good.

"The problem was not with what the Baghdad director said, but that the liberal media turned it into headlines, for weeks, without getting any corroboration or making any attempt at getting the facts."Not just the media, either. Plenty of freepers were whining about this, along with the "children" being held at Gitmo. Whatever it takes to make the U.S. look bad, I guess.

Stunning indeed. The media lies are so blatant--and so many people buy into them. I'm sure some buy into it because it fits their world view; others....well, they'd best look out for grifters, because they're really, really gullible.

"Do we have any crow left for these people?"
Maybe there are some ancient marble birds from the collection for them to chew on. Their quick criticism of the administration would lead me to think, "Good riddance!"

Good idea! Maybe some of their peers from the US could join them! :)

This was "planned" to be an inside job, after all the Iraqi people have been telling and believing lies for decades.
The only reason the curators have come clean was they forgot who is now in charge!

Thanks for the advice knews hound.
Usually my daughter emails me the Steyn articles, but she's been too busy to do much leisure reading. If she stays as busy, I will contact Pokey78 to be added to his list. Steyn is too good to miss!
