[history]
May 1, 2003 -- WASHINGTON - President Bush today turns "Top Gun" and boards a warplane to fly out over the Pacific for a dramatic landing on the homeward-bound aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, where he'll declare that "major combat" in Iraq is over.

""but it's not the first time a president has slept on an aircraft carrier - then-President Bill Clinton did that."
X42 was just trying to recreate the Tailhook Convention scandal of 1991.

It's risky for the President to do this, but he deserves a little hoopla now. Personally, I have every confidence in our military pilots and trust that they will land him safely.

Well there was a mixed cadence here, Joe.....several people think on this thread think it's just a publicity stunt. You could have said that and maintained some relevance to the thread. Bringing in your immigration gripes (legitimate or not) was what made you look one-tracked and irrelevant.
Maybe President Bush is just doing what he wants to do here.....I mean he did fly fighter jets in the ANG.....he obviously likes doing it.
It might be a bit 'flashy,' but the servicemen and women on the Abraham Lincoln will get the thrill of their lives, and the world will see that their CiC is pretty darn brave. The symbolism in this is enormous.

Pardon me for an uninformed question, but are there two sets of controls on the S-3B? I know the 4-seat EA-6 has only one pilot and three nonpilots, but I don't know for sure if the second guy up front has a set of controls or not. I'd love for GWB to have a chance to yank and bank for a while...he's earned it!

You must have me confused with someone that cares what others think.....I don't march in cadence well.
Thanks.

I just hope the pilot isn't nervous --- OR --- a jock.

Actually Willie, I wouldn't be surprised if an SS man, a former S-3B Viking pilot, if you will, was actually going to pilot this aircraft. Wouldn't surprise me at all.

Surely, SOMEONE on this forum knows a sailor on that carrier. So all of FReeperdom expects a first-hand account of what happens. I have never served in the military, but let me tell ya, this thing has me revvved up! I can only imagine what the sailors on the carrier are feeling.

No offense Mr. Ohio, but that's why I stepped out of cadence, I tire of people that worship politicians......Joe, Joe, Joe.......what I meant by a 'mixed cadence' was that some were saying exactly what you feel....or worse......that this is a cheap publicity stunt, and stupid. THEY weren't 'worshiping politicians'......you could have jumped right in and agreed with them.
But instead you chose to be irrelevant and whine about immigration. Get it?? (Left, right, left, right........)

Sometimes I think there's hope for you, Joe, but then you come up with posts like that one......

Like an idiot, I went to DUh and read their thread on this matter. It's sickening, quite a few are wishing that the cable malfunctions, there is a friendly fire incident, and one guy just said "do the world a favor and auger in."
To: ohioWfan
Definately..... I just hope he gets to take the controls for a couple of flyovers, maybe even drop some ordinance on Hollywood.
As far as the ever present you know who! the cadence should be "left, left, left, left" because "left, right, left, right" would be for someone with more than one issue on their mind

If I recall correctly, clinton's mery band of thieves stole anything that wasn't nailed down when they left that carrier.

I see that the speech is to be at 9:00PM, any word on the time of the actual landing? Would love to be in front of the Sony for that.
