A Letter from Saddam Hussein to the Iraqi People and the Arab Nation
By MEMRI
MEMRI | May 1, 2003

The London Arabic-language daily Al-Quds Al-Arabi, known for its ideological affinity with the regime of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, published a letter, allegedly from Saddam addressed to the Iraqi people and the Arab nation on the occasion of his birthday, April 28. According to the paper, "sources close to Saddam confirmed the authenticity of his handwriting and signature and noted that the conditions of his hiding place do not currently permit more than a written letter, for security reasons." The paper also published a picture of the first lines of the letter, and of Saddam Hussein's signature on it. In the letter Saddam calls upon the Iraqi people to set aside the differences between Shiites and Sunnis and concentrate on 'fighting the occupation'. He claims that the defeat was caused by betrayal and calls for boycotting the American administration in Iraq. Following is the letter in its entirety:(1)

"In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful:

'Indeed, [before the battle began] they swore an oath to Allah that they would not turn back in flight, and an oath to Allah must be answered for.'"(2)
Iraq, April 28, 2003

"From Saddam Hussein to the Great Iraqi People, and the Sons of the Arab and Islamic Nation, and men of honor everywhere: Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings."

'This Is No Victory As Long as There is Resistance In Your Hearts'

"Just as Hulagu entered Baghdad, so did the criminal Bush enter Baghdad, with the help of [traitor from within] 'Alqami(3) - indeed, even more than one 'Alqami."

"They did not vanquish you, you who refuse to accept occupation and humiliation, and you, who have Arabism and Islam in your hearts and minds, [they did not defeat you] except through treachery."

"By Allah, this is no victory, as long as there is resistance in your hearts."

"What we used to say has now become fact. We do not live in peace and security as long as the monstrous Zionist entity is on our Arab land, and therefore there should be no split in the unity of Arab struggle."

"Oh sons of our great people, rise up against the occupier and do not put your trust in those who speak of Sunnis and Shiites, because the only problem that the homeland, your great Iraq, is experiencing now is occupation."

"There are no priorities [now] other than the expulsion of the cowardly, murderous infidel occupier. No honorable hand would be extended to shake his, except that of traitors and collaborators."
"I say to you that all the countries surrounding you are against your resistance - but Allah is with you, because you are fighting disbelief and defending your rights."

"The traitors have allowed themselves to proclaim their treachery, although this is a shameful thing. You should now proclaim your rejection of the occupier for the sake of the great Iraq and the nation, and for Islam and humanity."

"Iraq shall triumph, and with it the sons of the nation and men of honor. We shall restore the archeological artifacts they stole, and we shall rebuild Iraq, that they want to divide into separate parts, may Allah bring shame upon them."

Palaces Not Registered In My Name - I Moved to a Small House Long Ago

"Saddam had no property registered in his own name and I challenge anyone to prove that the palaces were not registered in the name of the Iraqi state. I abandoned them long ago and went to live in a small house."

"Forget everything and resist occupation. The sinful error begins when there are priorities other than the occupier and his expulsion. Remember that they aspire to bring in the conflicting parties so that your Iraq will remain weak, so they can plunder it as they have been doing."

"Your party, the party of the Arab Socialist Ba'ath, is proud that it has not it did not extended its hands to the Zionist enemy and did not make concessions to the cowardly American or British aggressor."

"Whoever stands against Iraq and plots against it shall not enjoy peace relying on American support."

"Blessings to every man of the resistance, every honorable Iraqi citizen, and to every woman, child, and elderly person in our great Iraq."

"Unite and the enemy will flee from you, and with him the traitors that entered with him."

"Know that he who came with the invading forces and he whose planes flew in order to kill you will not send you anything but poison."

"Allah willing, the day of liberation and victory will come, for us, for the nation, and for Islam above all else. This time, as always when right triumphs, the days to come will be better."

"Safeguard your property, your departments, and your schools, and boycott the occupier. Boycott him, as this is your duty towards Islam, the religion, and the homeland."

"Long Live Great Iraq and its people"

"Long Live Palestine, free and Arab from the river to the sea,"

"Allah Akbar"

"Disgrace upon the despicable ones."

"Saddam Hussein
26 Safar, 1424
April 28, 2003"

A bit sensitive about that isn't he, whomever "he" is. Was is Saddam who said "L'etat c'est moi?"

I am sitting at the right hand of Allah. And all I can say is 'Boy, is it hot down here!'"

Well, old fella, if you're still alive, why not at least a videotape?

Doesn't make sense. A tirade inciting folk to rise up against the infidels, and then goes into a defencive mode that he didn't have property in his name.

Poor Saddam. He's so down in the dumps these days, he's beginning to sound like a loser.

After winning a sweeping victory against invading infidel Jews & Crusaders, well, well, whad'ya know? Saddam still ignominiously gets kicked from office -- by the invading infidel Jews and Crusaders, no less. Where's magnanimity when you need it? Don't winners get any respect anymore? Life's just not fair. And who would've thunk? Saddam, who only weeks ago sat astride the pinnacle of a proud, dictatorial career, his brave Republican Guards vanquishing the enemy, wrapping up one of history's swiftest battlefield triumphs, making mince meat of Great Satan's army -- so soon out of a job?

So what's an unemployed dictator do in this new market nowadays when career changes get suddenly foisted upon him? Bear in mind, there are no raft of federal job retraining programs hard-hit dictators could turn to. How about the temporary job market? I suppose -- Saddam's definitely got plenty of marketable talent, across a range of specialties, from Information (ran a propaganda Ministry) to Law enforcement (ran a network of gulags and torture chambers, no bleeding-heart here). His resume is quite impressive. The problem is temp-work is no good for someone like Saddam seeking full-time work with all the perks (presidential palaces, servants, virgins, limos, New York Times home delivery, you name it.) Sides, it's not like a ready pool of deposed-dictators can unionize and bargain for better pay and benefits. *Regime change* sounds neat on paper, but try telling an unemployed dictator and his cronies that.

Hit the lecture circuit? Regime strongholds like Harvard and Berkeley no doubt would make Saddam star of the lecture circuit. The problem is security when you're Ace of Spades -- at the top of the Most-Wanted list drawn up by a bunch of sore-losers (badly defeated Coalition forces) who just can't seem to remember they lost the war!

But don't cry for me, O liberal media, says the ex-Butcher of Baghdad. He thinks he's hit on the answer, his *roadmap* to quick recovery: Start a newsletter! Hey, what else? Think of the huge subscriber base Saddam starts out with. Cost of materials and recruiting new readers? No problem -- the New York Times will handle those, in exchange for advertising space on his newsletter. Heck, the Dixie Chicks plan to promote future concert tours this way -- right there on Saddam's newsletter!

Think I'm kidding, eh? Ha!

Here it is, straight from CNN, Saddam's most trusted name in news: "A London Arabic newspaper has published what it says is a letter from deposed Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein urging Iraqis to resist coalition forces," the network reports.

"The handwritten letter was dated April 28, Saddam's 66th birthday, and was faxed to the Al-Quds Al-Arab Al-Malarkey Al-thetime newspaper, said its editor, Abdel Bari Atwan."

"I think the letter is genuine," Atwan opines, although he admits he's no expert. "We can't verify it because we don't know where he is," he adds, which only goes to show this guy doesn't know diddley-squat. Don't know where Saddam is? Atwan, dude -- you're kidding, right? Where else would he be but among his most fanatical followers, a day's drive south of Los Angeles, right in the Bay area, San Francisco, Saddam's new home and center of power. His precise location remains a secret, of course -- known only to his Fedayeenie militia, headed by actress Janeane Garofalo.

Authentic letter -- yes or no? Forget the Pentagon, I can reveal that a well-placed source very close to Saddam, who shall remain strictly anonymous here (I would never compromise a source, except to say she's a Hollywood has-been, can't spell her own name, and known by her initials B.S.) has confirmed the letter is the real deal.

If Saddam's 'Reports-Of-My-Demise-Were-Greatly-Exaggerated' missive is authentic, CNN says "it would be the first indication that Saddam survived coalition bombing...". Having four, 2,000 pound JDAMS dropped on your head and living to tell about it -- now that's what I call charming reading.

However, the U.K. Independent is reporting tonight that "neither the handwriting nor the signature appeared similar to other written documents attributed to Saddam, casting doubt on whether he survived the bombing..." Now, how dumb can this newspaper be? The fact that Saddam can still write at all -- try writing with mangled hands after a JDAM-ing -- should be feat enough, no? Apparently not.

Meanwhile, in other news, cryptic references to the SARS virus in the published works of Nostradamus fueled speculation that reports of his death in 1566 were probably greatly exaggerated...

Anyway, that's...

Notice how OBL and Saddam stay with the written word and audio cassettes but not videotape which is easy to shoot and show you are alive and healthy? Methinks they are at room temperature.
