Some of them even talked about re-introducing the concept of "fathers" into actual American cities, proposing that we provide job training to men, as well as women, but without requiring the men to commit a felony first.

Wow! This is a very radical idea.

Yeah, and you have to pay tuition to be told that.

They probably think that their K-12 education was just a lot of leftist crap, PC indoctrination, radical feminism, etc., etc., that they'd be damned if they were going to go into hock for more of the same at the university level.

Too bad girls.

An electrician in my town is a millionaire. He is also a member of the school board, has tickets to the Metropolitan Opera, travels extensively with his family, and his daughter's wedding pictures were featured in TOWN AND COUNTRY magazine.

If you're smart, you're smart, and if you know what you want to do with your life, you're going to get ahead, whether you have a college education or not. Anyone can pick up a book and read and become knowledgeable without the benefit of a college education.

You're absolutely right.

Boys can't even draw pictures of guns in school today because it upsets the radical boy-hating women principals and the feminized wussy male principals.

Up to a point. More arcane subjects require a good instructor to grasp them. It is as hard to understand Hegel on your own as mastering martial art from the book or learn to play musical instrument by yourself. Few people can do it.

" It would be much better if for some people to become plumbers, carpenters, etc and go into business for themselves and become rich rather than get a useless liberal arts degree.

I agree, except I don't see the liberal arts degree as useless, although perhaps it is these days, with it's politically correct agenda. It used to be that a BA required a fairly in depth look at history, English, a foreign language, mathematics, plus whatever major was of interest. This in itself may or may not qualify you for a job, but an in depth look at Western Civilization was a very useful thing, IMO.

Only I kind of doubt they teach it so much anymore, so you're probably right, it's getting kind of useless, esp, without grad school afterwards.

Congrats on your Phd and your new consulting business.

"But a true liberal arts education has great value in itself."

I agree with you there. A good liberal arts degree is a great thing to have and should be acquired on the way to graduate level studies.

Even a scientist has a great advantage if he can use the English language well, and be conversant on subjects outside of his narrow discipline. More so yet for those going into the corporate world.

Excellent reply.

I knew of the 'man of the house' rule, but was not aware of the $45,000 entry fee. I suppose there was also an upper limit on income over which you then got tossed out of public housing because you could afford your own?

By the way, I found my facts book, so here are the numbers:
White Black R D Male Female
Overall voters: 68.5% 28.6% 28.6% 61.9% 45.3% 54.7%

Overall gender difference in 2,544,422 voters is 9.4%

Sample White Majority District
White Black R D Male Female
Overall voters: 89.5% 7.5% 46.1% 33.7% 47.0% 53.0%
Overall Female-Male difference 6.0% in 73,248 voters.

Sample Black Majority District
White Black R D Male Female
Overall voters: 14.8% 80.2% 6.8% 79.5% 41.4% 58.6%
Overall Female-Male difference 17.2% in 53,967 voters.

These numbers are from the PaR Guide to the 2000 Louisiana Legislature.

The 2000 Louisiana census lists a total population of 4,465,430. Of this, 51.6% is female. Over the age of 18, there are 1,539,808 men and 1,709,369 women or 3,249,177 total. So the natural voting age population is 47.3% male and 52.6% female for a 5.2% difference.

That means 21.7% of the population or 704,755 people are not registered to vote.

For the above listed districts, it means that 8% of the white men (2,155 people) and 20.3% (7,740 people) of the black men are not able to or are not choosing to vote.

These numbers are huge.

Oh, and since the state does not stop child support orders for going to jail, the Democrats are using this group to generate an enourmous money issue for them.

Go. Become a doctor. You can make enough money to change the future of generations of your bloodline for years to come.

*I hope to be able to take care of my mother. That is my main concern with my father being deceased. I am not married so I do not have much of a bloodline.

No, I was referring to the piece of paper that represents the liberal arts degree. I reread your post and I assume now that you were referring to a broadly based education in the "classics" when you referred to a "true liberal arts" education. All I can say is, nice work if you can get it.

You do not need to plan to be a musician when you study/learn music or a writer when you learn how to write an essey.

I see that the good education consists of two segements - one which gives you decent job skills and second which makes you an knowledgeable and hopefully a better man. One needs both.
