Need Your Vote on the Voinivich Award
CQ

Posted on 04/29/2003 3:09:20 PM PDT by cq

These Awards are for Repubulicans (RINO) Who have would rather see us pay higher taxes or get less tax refunds instead of cut pork and fat out of the budget such as Corporate Welfare, NEA or PBS.

Here is Why George Voinivich is Associated with the Award:

In the early morning hours of April 11, the House narrowly approved a conference report on a budget resolution (H Con Res 95) sanctioning $550 billion in tax cuts over ten years. Seven Republicans joined their Democratic counterparts in opposing the measure, which passed by a 216 to 211 margin. The original House version of the resolution, approved in late March, provided for a tax cut of $726 billion – the sum President Bush requested.

The reluctance of moderate Republicans to support a massive tax cut helped slash the President’s proposal by more than half in the Senate, which also approved its version of the budget resolution at the end of March. In that narrowly divided body, Senators Olympia Snowe (R- ME) and George Voinivich (R-OH), insisted that a wartime tax cut not exceed $350 billion, while Senators Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) and John McCain (R-AZ) joined most Democrats in opposing any tax cuts at all.

Not wanting to give up on a higher figure, GOP leaders devised an unusual conference report on the budget resolution allowing the House and Senate tax writers to draft legislation providing for cuts of different amounts. This tactic – criticized by Democrats and anti-poverty advocates as a sleight of hand – was designed to delay a final vote on the size of the cuts until May when the House Ways and Means Committee and Senate Finance Committee produce tax legislation.

Procedural rules requiring 60 votes to pass legislation will ensure that the Senate’s version of the tax bill does not cost more than $350 billion. However, when the tax bill returns from conference committee with the House, it can be as high as $550 billion and will not be protected by the 60-vote rule – which means a tax cut of that size can pass in the Senate with just 51 votes.

Well, you hit most of them.

Dick Riordan for backing Klinton always has to be on the RINO list.

But I have to go with a tie for McStain and Chafee. Tiebreak - McStain for being a bigger jackass.

Usually Arlen Specter would be on this list. But, thanks to Pat Toomey, he has to look over his shoulder at a primary challenge. So, he will be on his good behavior until the primary is over.

Thank you Pat!

Some have portrayed Senator Voinivich as just being a good conservative for going against the taxes as a measure of fiscal responsibility. i.e. working towards a balanced budget. Does Senator Voinich really believe Congress is going to be more responsible if they have access to more tax money? Having that box of candy on the table isn't going to help them stop eating it. Putting the box of candy away will.

After the 2000 election from reading the news papers you would almost think McCain was elected, all I saw was stuff about his agenda. It wasn't until the spy plane went down in China did I see very much about Bush.Once the media had something negative to focus on they start looking to see how W would get out of the fire.

Calling Dick Riordan a RINO is an insult to RINOs. He doesn't even rise to that level.

You are pathetic. That is a blatant lie about Specter. He usually votes with Republicans. Of course, you will bring up Judge Bork. I'll bring up Clarence Thomas, who without Specter's annihilating questioning of Anita, would not be on the federal bench. Specter nearly lost his political career due to that questioning.

You're ingrateful or worse. I've been meaning to get that off my chest for a while.

Toomey is an ungrateful little swine, asking the President, the Vice President, and former President to help him raise funds and then use those funds for a purpose which the three did not intend. Arrogant little twerp thinks he is entitled to a Senate seat.

He's entitled to a thrasing, a la Specter.

If Your hired to be a CEO - Are you allowed to go into the companies' Vault and have a party? NO! but that's the way these morons treat thier bugets. They think of themselves first. They have to make sure the people that paid for thier Campaign get what they want. If not then they won't get the money to fund the next election!

Hey, uh, ingrate.

http://www.politicspa.com/Press_Releases/042903DSCC.htm

How do you expect Specter to respond to this nonsense when he is dealing with your self-righteous little prick Toomey? If we lose this seat, it will be thanks to you and whey-face.

Don't know why, but your post really annoyed me.

What gets me is how the press try to make Voinab$tch out to be so brave:

Today Bush is in Ohio, one of the most rightwing states north of Mississippi, pontificating in his new Bily Graham speaking style to the employees of an Abrams tank factory. As I mentioned once before, he can no longer be assured of a supportive audience evern in the elementary schools he used to favor as venues and now usually speaks to military recruits and people working in munitions plants. I heard that he will not speak anywhere unless his PR team can prearrange at least three "enthusiastic segments of applause with some cheering," and one standing ovation. I kid you not.

But the main reason he's in Ohio on an intimidation campaign against Sen. Voinivich, a republican who has dared to speak out against the tax cut. Poor misguided Voinivich feels that as Bush has already bankrupt most state governments and is now working on cleaning out the federal treasury, it might not be a good idea to shovel out $720 billion in tax cuts, $700 billion of which will go to the already-wealthy.Bush has also sicced the attack dogs from the Club for Growth on Voinivich. The club spends millions each year to go after politicians who stray from the rightwing party line. They are sort of like the Maoist "reeducation teams," except with a bigger budget and less charm.http://baltimore.indymedia.org/newswire/display/3897/index.php

I am also looking for Ideas on what the reward can be. I was thinking of sending them some monopoly money since they spend our hard earned money just like it was monopoly money.

Re McCain, in his defense (I can't believe I'm saying that!) he HAS been good about opposing pork spending, which the Stevens wing of the party specializes in.

Re Toomey/Specter, Republicans have the right to a choice in the primary; primary challenges won't typically get off the ground if there isn't a lot of dissatisfaction with the current GOPer. Is it too much to ask that a Republican be pro-life? Or at least support some restrictions on abortion? The most one has the right to expect in a primary is that the candidates observe the 11th commandment.

Here in Ohio, There are alot of school districts that are complaining about votes not approving thier Bonds. Gee I wonder why? Maybe if the schools could do a better job they would not have such a big problem.

That made me wonder, if each of the items on the Federal budget had to be approved by a voters - How many of them would pass?

Queen Of Spades - Hitlery Clinton
Jackass Of Spades - Cajun Serpenthead

Ace of Hearts - John McCain
King of Hearts - George Voinivich
