CONSIDER a radical idea: Enable a mere majority, not two-thirds, of the California Legislature to pass a budget.

Then consider how completely un-radical it is. Majority rule is good enough for Congress to approve the federal budget. Majority rule is good enough for all but two other states.

We need to create a Sweden in California. Concern for the rights of the minority is an unbearable obstacle in the route of remaking California. So naturally, its got to go!!!

But Democrats would hold no more power in Sacramento than Republicans in Washington do now.

Due to the filibuster and other procedural rules in the US Senate, this statement is false. But then, the Mercury News is well aware of that fact. All of the liberals would love to see this passed, so that the Dems in Sacramento can "tax their way to prosperity!"

This must be stopped at all cost. The two-thirds requirement is the only thing stopping the dems from running amok. We would really be bankrupted if the 2/3 requirement was rescinded

Imagine if by a "simple majority" they changed the property tax rate from 1% original sale price to 1% of current assesed value.

I bought my home in North Orange County 6 years ago for $190,000. My taxes would more than double from $1900 to $4000 per year.
